Fr. Theophanes (Constantine), in the world Seraphim William Constantine, was born in Edmonton in 1949. As a child he attended school in Edmonton, graduating from Strathcona Composite High School in 1965. He attended Reed College in Portland Oregon from 1966 to 1970, receiving a BA in Mathematics. From 1973 - 1977 he attended McGill University in Montreal part-time while working full-time, receiving a Graduate Diploma in Public Accounting. In 1978 he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the Province of Quebec, later enrolling in the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants. In the period 1972 - 1982 he acquired ten years of full-time work experience, first as a computer programmer and systems analyst, then as an articling student-in-accounts for the Chartered Accountancy designation, then as a computer auditor for a major oil company. In 1982 - 1983 he attended the London Graduate School of Business Studies (London Business School) of the University of London in the UK, reading for the M.Sc. (Applied) in Economics (MBA). At the end of the first year of the two-year program, with the counsel and encouragement of his confessor he took a leave of absence from the University to go to Mt Athos to test his vocation. He then spent six months in Thessaloniki in intensive lessons in Modern Greek. He was at the Monastery of Simonos Petra on Mount Athos from 1984 - 2004, entering as a novice in January of 1984 and being tonsured monk of the Great Schema by Abbot Aimilanos (Bapheides) in 1990. Prior to his tonsure he retired from all accounting organizations and designations. He was enrolled in the Monastery of the Great Lavra, Mount Athos, living in the Skete of Kavsokalyvia, a dependency of the Great Lavra, from 2004 - 2013. In 2014 he returned to Edmonton, where he lived, attending the Russian Orthodox Church. He wrote a work, Psychological Basis of Mental Prayer in the Heart. Another work, Introduction to the Jesus Prayer, is currently under consideration for publication.
