New Devotee Party

The NDP is a party in Canada that is quite left of center in Canada. You see, in Canada, liberalism is not a dirty word. It's too bad that in the U.S. "liberalism" invokes a knee-jerk reaction in people who listen to Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck and wonder why they are losing their jobs anyway ( Read more... )

I was an NDPer in the days when liberalism was a dirty word in Canada, under Mulroney, when capitalism won the war between economic systems. I remember hanging out at the Ottawa NDP headquarters and listening to Ed's speeches about hope and equality. I would have us swing even further to the left were we wanted minimum living wage, total health coverage, and even car insurance. There was hope then, we thought we could do it, I even ran for the NDP seat in Ottawa Center in '93, I didn't get the party nomination but I did help out a lot and I learned how things ran. Right now, I just want Harper out, I want the liberals to get their together, they tend to pick idea-logs with personality of toilet paper. It's like the entire country feel asleep and no one really cares anymore. WE have health care because of the NDP (CCF at the time), we need passion again in politics or Trudeau's warning of Canadian absorption into the US will become a fact, we already too close to the US for my liking, and it's like hocking docking with a sinking ship, the Capitalist raiders have raped the US economy and American is a generation away from becoming a bankrupt state. I like idea of sharing of the wealth and with our resources we can do it but it those resources the US needs which as they become more desperate, the more tempting we look to them. They would never invade or something like that but they could manipulate our economic and political structures so that it would seem like we wanted it. Most people think I am paranoid but trust me they have done it before.

The Hamilton Centre Riding Association meeting last night was missing a huge asset: young people. I've just been voted into the Executive volunteering committee for the Hamilton NDP and it was a fairly passionate meeting there with Andrea Horwath giving a short speech on why the HST SHOULD NOT BE PASSED. I've been tasked with putting together the webiste, newsletter and Facebook page. It's time to step into the 21st century and get young people interested.

You're right that the Liberals lack spark and personality. And no, Canada does not want to be the band for America's Titanic.

I knew that as soon as President Obama annouced that he was increasing the presence in Afghanistan, we were all doomed.

It's quite the quagmire. Harper needs to go. NOW.

I think we are screwed if the young people of Canada do not put down their iphones and ps3 controllers and understand that they have the most to lose if we do not take control of this country's destiny, this is the most affluent and educated generation ever and if they don't wake up, they will never understand what they have lost, what we all will lose.

I'm going to try my best to reach them. To make the site interactive would help. Sure, there will be crank comments, but those can be deleted and it still would be a great way for the young to speak their minds.
