I went.

Yep, I went to see Bright Eyes. I decided that it was a reward/celebration. I had just dumped $1,000 into one of my loans and the show was the day before the four year anniversary of my exodus from Council Bluffs (always something to celebrate). I managed to run into somebody selling a ticket for $20 (she had a friend who ended up not coming or something) which made the financial bite feel a bit softer. In the end, the show was worth it. I was supporting a band I utterly adore AND a venue that's just plain awesome. I felt like I'd accomplished something I'd always wanted to since Bright Eyes is the only group I've ever felt compelled to see live. Everything else I'm satisfied just listening to their CD's. I was really impressed at Mike Mogus's slide guitar skills. I've always noticed it on the albums because slide guitar on anything else would drive me nuts (it's usually way too twangy and country-esque for my tastes). Seeing him play it live, however, gave me a whole new respect for the guy. He has that thing down to a science/art hybrid! It was amazing! I spent a good portion of the show just staring at his fingers as he made the instrument look so easy to play. I can see now why his slide playing is the only kind I can tolerate. It's light; feathery and as close to twang-less as he can get it.

It was a great show and I'm glad I indulged myself. Although, I probably won't do it again.

bright eyes, happiness
