Ok, ok, ok, ok, ok!

Since Mr. Jared was a Complainey McComplainerson today, I'm actually posting something today. Woo. Look at me go. Plus, today was rather interesting. Lets see . . .

1. I had a customer today who came in and flirted with me uncomfortably for about 45 minutes, then saw the sign that says "All employees are currently in a committed relationship (except for Christoph)" and then used that a fodder for his flirting.

2. I had some excellent conversations with a couple of my favorite customers today. Politics, cartooning, group dynamics, philosophy. It was great.

3. I met Rachel Corrie's mom!!! Wow. She was incredibly friendly. She came in to hang a flyer and I asked her about the event it was for and I noticed that it was sponsored by the Rachel Corrie Foundation. I then told her a little story about how shortly after her death (which occured about a week after I received word that I was accepted into Evergreen), my mother sat me down and told me of her genuine concern that by going to this liberal hippie college, I could end up dead. It was at about that point in the conversation that this kindly woman said,"Yeah. I'm Rachel's mother." I was instantly sympathetic for her because I suddenly feared her breaking out in tears over memories of her daughter, but to my surprise, I didn't even see any signs of sorrow. We discussed how her death has done a lot to change the community and motivate people. I mentioned that I was from the midwest and she told me she was originally from Denison, Iowa. We then talked about Council Bluffs, Denison and cultural differences between Iowa and Olympia. She was a remarkably friendly woman and seemed happy to have such an interesting conversation with a fellow Iowan. It makes perfect sense that her daughter strove to be a peacemaker.

So there ya have it. That's my day in a larger-than-average nutshell.
