Book List 2010

Dec 31, 2009 21:12

Here it is folks... Book list 2010...

This list has been hard this year. Work has been stressful and it is hard to find the energy to read the complex books I like. I'm easing toward lighter scientific reads, which has helped. Complex books can be piled on come this summer. :-P

January:
None

February:
Writings on an Ethical Life by Peter Singer
Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species: a Graphic Adaptation by Michael Keller and Nicoelle Rager

March:
Generation Me By Jean M. Twenge
Why We Make Mistakes  Joseph T. Hallinan

April
How to Talk so Teens will Listen and Listen so Teens Will Talk by Adele Faber
Don't be Such a Scientist by Randy Olson

May
Animal Investigators
No Right to Remain Silent

June
Unscientific America
13 Things that Don't Make Sense

July
The Face on Your Plate
The Year of Living Biblically

August
Hope for Animals and Their World

September

October

November
The Hidden Brain

December
Eating Animals
Your Inner Fish

Goal: 24 books Completed: 12  To Read: 12
New goal: 16 books Completed: 16 To Read: 0

It's very clear that I am not completing my goal this year. 12 books is just too much to read in a little over a month. I am not feeling very bad or guilty about this. I've been happy with my progress the previous two years. I feel that my time spent in love was well spent. I suppose I would have been happiest with 20, but I think 16 books is still an admirable goal when you are a working professional.

Looking back, I wish my list was a bit more challenging than some I've completed in previous years. I have to attribute that to feeling exhausted, burned out, and depressed at my job and needing some escape. Still, they were all non-fiction books which makes it a book list some people would aspire to complete. Getting 4 in by the end of the year will be challenging... no doubt. But I am 30% through one book in November and I think over half done with the other one. I feel serious about taking on this challenge so I will be trying to decrease my TV time to reach my goals. :P I can do it. You'll see.
