About Exit Wounds:
Set in modern-day Tel Aviv, a young man, Koby Franco, receives an urgent phone call from a female soldier. Learning that his estranged father may have been a victim of a suicide bombing in Hadera. Koby reluctantly joins the soldier in searching for clues. The father¹s death would certainly explain his empty apartment and disconnected phone line. As Koby tries to unravel the mystery of his father¹s death, he finds himself not only piecing together the last few months of his father¹s life, but his entire identity. With thin, precise lines and luscious watercolors, Modan creates a portrait of modern Israel, a place where sudden death mingles with the slow dissolution of family ties.
Exit Wounds is the North American graphic novel debut from one of Israel's best-known cartoonists, Rutu Modan, and has been nominated for the televised 2007 Quill Awards for graphic novels.
About Rutu Modan:
Rutu Modan is one of Israel's best-known cartoonists. Born in Tel-Aviv in 1966, she has received much recognition for her work, including four Best Illustrated Children¹s Book Awards from the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. The Israel Ministry of Culture named Rutu Modan the Young Artists of the Year in 1997, she has been a chosen artist of the Israel Cultural Excellence Foundation since 2005, and her work has received nominations for Eisner, Ignatz and Angoulême awards.
