here. Out of 803,009 registered voters, 628,545 or 78.27% cast a ballot either in advance (in person or by absentee ballot) or in person on election day. The number of people who voted in person on election day barely exceeded those who voted by other means. Of those who cast a vote for President/Vice President (5,632 voters did not), 78.52% selected Obama and Biden, 19.19% chose McCain and Palin, 0.89% voted for Ralph Nader, and a shocking 1 person in 500 voted for Alan Keyes!
In the 13th Congressional District, where I live, Congress's only open atheist, Democrat Fortney "Pete" Stark, won re-election handily with 76.20% of the vote to Republican Raymond Chui's 23.50%, with 0.30% voting for unspecified write-in candidates. Stark "only" got 74.9% two years ago, and 71.7% in 2004, so I guess coming out as an atheist actually helped him. Yay!
