It's that time again!
As with last year, my parents have kindly agreed to throw open their house to host a Macmillan Coffee Morning on the 26th September (a Friday, so why not start the weekend early by taking time off and relaxing with friends, refreshments and games all with the aim of raising funds for the charity?).
For those who don't know what one is, every year the Macmillan Cancer Support charity gets people to organise 'the world's biggest coffee morning' meaning that as many people as possible hold one on the same day at which they provide refreshments at a suitable charge, have activities where you pay per entry and can win a prize (so incentive); to get you started, they include a 'guess the number of beans in the coffee jar' poster for people to enter with prize suggestions. The number is under a scratch-off silver panel. Last year the winner was awarded a jar of gourmet jelly beans (I sneakily found some at an online seller who could ship direct to my parents' house), as were winners of other games. We also sold homebakes - cakes, biscuits, cookies and savoury nibbles, and my mom made up bags of cookies for people to buy and take home - she also made sure that we had plenty of clingfilm and foil for people who wanted to buy cake slices to take home.
Macmillan also bring out their autumn raffle tickets at this time of year, so you can sell them at the coffee morning and still be before the closing date for ticket sales.
Here's the website:

For those who don't know what Macmillan do, there's a tab on the front page labelled 'Why'. Without the support of their specially trained nurses and staff, cancer patients and cancer survivors, their families and their friends are too often left to face everything from medical treatment to everyday tasks alone.

For those who want to come along to the coffee morning, let me know via a comment or private message and I'll give you the exact address. In broad terms, they live in Nuneaton, in the middle of England, we'll start holding it around 11am and if last year was anything to go by, we'll keep going until the last handbag or pocket is emptied. We raised £127 (not including raffle tickets) last time. I wonder if we can beat this?

If anyone would like to come but can't, or who would like to support the cause, remember that you can donate via the normal Macmillan website.
