My mother should work for the CIA

My mother has an almost supernatural ability to find out about Stuff. She doesn't even have to try very hard, all damning evidence just magically finds its way into her hands.

A point in case is something that happened a few days ago. I bought a new bag and when my mother asked how much it was, I did what I always do to stop her nagging me about spending too much - I lied about the price. I knocked off about 30 złotys off the original price and said the bag cost less than 100 zł instead of about 120. Not a huge difference, but it's usually enough to placate her. Only this time it didn't work because when I saw her on the next day, she said she knew how much the bag had really cost. I was so surprised I almost started suspecting her of being psychic, but the real answer was much more mundane, though still a bit like something you'd see in a detective film.

What really happened was I brought over my laundry the next day after I got the new bag. I put it in a shopping bag which I had used to carry the bag home from the shop and I hadn't bothered to take out the receipt. I usually don't do it, and if I do I throw the receipts away, which has often come back and bit me in the butt when things broke and I wanted to fix or replace them. But anyway, as is my habit, I had left the receipt in the shopping bag and my mother, being her nosy self could resist seeing what the piece of paper was. Not just that, she even took the trouble to read it and find out what it was for and how much it was. I have to admire her curiosity, I couldn't be bothered to care if I were her. But she has clearly missed her calling, she could have made a big career as a government agent investigating various financial swindles :P
