"Bizarre, even," he chuckled, shifting his gaze from the scenery to Sam. "People been shooting at you recently?"

He nodded, absently trailing his fingers down her arm. "Tell me?"

"Charlie's mother was dying, and he needed to get past the Air Force personnel to see her one last time." Maybe she wouldn't have to mention the getting captured and interrogated part.

"Well, his mother died, so he's been a lot better," Sam said, cradling her mug in both hands and staring into it. "But she got to see him once more, and he got to see his sister, and he wasn't alone, so it could have been worse, too."

Jack blinked. "Okay, why was Krycek beating up on Crichton? I'd think he'd be on your side...oh. Right. Distraction?"

She nodded approvingly. "Yeah. And wow, did it work. Still, the bruising was pretty impressive."

"I imagine. Poor John. You know, there's much more effective," he smirked, "means of distraction. but whatever works." Jack rested his chin on her shoulder. "And that just let you walk in, no questions asked?"

"Um?" he repeated, making it a question. "You don't have to tell me, Sam, but I wish you would."

"We got caught. There was an interrogation, but no torture. I'm pretty Jack pulled some strings and blackmailed someone, but I can't prove it." She twisted so she could better gauge his reaction.
