PART 2

I'm not completely happy with the layout of the text, but I got some complaints yesterday that it was hard and kind of confusing to read when I didn't space the speaking parts into separate paragraphs..I want to know what you think. Do you like the way it looks in this chapter better or the way it looks in the previous chapter better?

"Nick-" David began to reason.

"David, It will just be for a couple of weeks until she gains our trust and then she will come back home. It will be as if nothing ever happened."

"Why should I have to gain your trust?" Brooklyn asked with a humorless laugh. "There's no way in hell I'm doing that."

Kevin turned to look at Nick and said, "Nick, think about this. You're totally overreacting. You're basically talking about kidnapping her."

Nick ignored him and continued, "Right now, she has the power to totally destroy our careers. We can't risk that. And it's not kidnapping if she comes willingly."

"Why the hell would she agree to any of this?" Joe asked, looking at Nick like he was nuts.

Nick didn't answer for a minute and it was at this time that Big Rob poked his head into the room.

"Kevin, your dad's on the phone."

Kevin looked up and followed Rob out the door, telling everyone to ‘sit tight'.

Joe dropped into a chair in a corner of the room, exasperated and David mimicked his actions in the chair next to it. Nick came and sat on the table, facing Brooklyn who had just sat back down.

"Look," Nick said in a hushed voice that only the two of them could hear. "I know this situation sucks for all of us, but just try to think of it as a paid vacation."

Brooklyn looked at him incredulously.

"You go to the university, right?" Nick asked, ignoring her expression.

Brooklyn nodded, unsure where he was going with this.

"Well, it would be horrible if they were to find out that you cheated on your finals, wouldn't it? A person could get expelled for something like that." Nick continued with feigned innocence.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Brooklyn questioned.

Nick forced a smirk, hating himself for resorting to this, but not willing to risk his, his brothers', and David's careers.

"Well, I happen to have quite a few connections in high places. If you choose not to come with us, it may just come out that you cheated on your finals."

Brooklyn's glare hardened.

"You'd destroy my life for no reason?" She snarled in disbelief.

Instead of answering, Nick just continued to stare her down, ignoring the tears that she was visibly forcing back, praying she wouldn't call his bluff.

"Fine." She finally said softly.

"Pardon?" Nick asked, obviously just wanting her to say it louder.

Gritting her teeth, Brooklyn said a little louder, but still not loud enough for anyone but the two of them to hear, "Fine. I'll come with you. But I hope you know you are the biggest asshole in the world."

Nick's fake smirk spread a little more and standing up he said, "Glad we could figure this out. Let's go let Big Rob know that we need to stop by your house so you can pack a bag for your vacation."

Following Brooklyn over to the where Joe and David were sitting, Nick tried to ignore the disgust he currently felt for himself.

Nick told Rob that we would meet up with him at the airport, purposely avoiding the slightly disappointed expression on Rob's face.

When they got to Brooklyn's apartment, Kevin cut the engine to the SUV and he, Nick who had ridden shotgun, and Joe all went to open their doors to get out.

"Where are you guys going?" Brooklyn asked, raising an eyebrow.

"In with you..." Nick retorted, as if it were the dumbest question in the world. Brooklyn shook her head.

"Nuh-uh. You're not welcome in my house." She looked pointedly at Nick when she said this, and if looks could kill, well let's just say that there would be a lot of teenage girls after Brooklyn's blood.

Nick, slightly surprised at her icy tone, quickly said, "Well you're not going alone. I don't trust you not to try something."

Brooklyn opened her mouth to say something but Joe intervened.

"How about we compromise?" He asked, looking between his brother and Brooklyn. "I'll go in with her; just me."

Brooklyn thought for a second and sighed, "Fine. Whatever."

Joe slid out of the car following her into the redbrick building and up the stairs to her apartment.

"This place is nice." Joe stated, feeling extremely awkward and trying to make conversation.

"Gee thanks." Brooklyn replied sarcastically, adding, "You don't know how much your opinion means to me."

Feeling slightly affronted by her attitude, but completely understanding it, Joe bit his tongue and followed her through the small living room and down the hall to her bedroom.

Brooklyn went to her closet and pulled out a duffel bag while Joe sat at the foot of her bed.

"Please, make yourself at home." Brooklyn spoke in the same sarcastic tone, not even pausing to look at him.

Joe sighed and said, "Look, I'm really sorry. I am. But Nick, he's just, he's-"

"An asshole?" Brooklyn provided, stopping for a moment to look at him before pulling out a few more shirts from her closet and tossing them on the bed.

Giving up, Joe shook his head and picked up a shirt that caught his eye. It was a bright yellow shirt that read: "Legalize Gay: Repeal Prop. 8".

He looked at Brooklyn with a raised eyebrow and when Brooklyn noticed, she snatched the shirt from his hand and shoved it into her duffel. Joe continued to look at her and Brooklyn finally looked back at him, sick of his staring.

"What?" She snapped.

Joe just shook his head. "Nothing. You're just different from a lot of our other fans."

Zipping up her duffel bag, Brooklyn put her hands on her hips and stared down at Joe with an intense expression.

"Number one, don't you dare assume that you know anything about me. Number two, I told you already that homosexuality doesn't bother me. And three, you guys obviously don't know your fans as well as you think you do if you think that one of you turning out to be gay will cause them to abandon you. Yeah, I'm sure your record label may have an issue with it and you may lose some of your fans, but for the most part, your fans wouldn't go anywhere. Not the true ones at least."

Joe sat in silence, absorbing the words Brooklyn had just spoken while she went into her bathroom to grab a few more things. He took this chance to glance around the room, picking up a tattered Daffy Duck stuffed animal off the bed, turning it over in his hands. He started as it was snatched from his grasp.

"Hands off." Brooklyn said quietly, unzipping her duffel to add the things she got from the bathroom and the stuffed animal and zipping it up again.

"Sorry." Joe apologized quietly, daring to ask another question, "So you live here alone?"

Brooklyn nodded and answered, "Yeah. My scholarship at the university pays for everything, including this place."

Joe nodded and asked, "What about your parents?"

Glancing up from where she was crouched down gathering her laptop and chargers into her computer bag, Brooklyn tonelessly responded, "They moved down to Tuscola with my sister to help her out."

It was obvious that wasn't the whole story, but Joe didn't want to press too much. Instead he replied, "Do you get to see them often?"

Brooklyn clenched and unclenched her jaw. Standing and throwing her bags over her shoulder she turned to face Joe. "No I don't. Now if we're done with you trying to ‘get to know me', can we go?"

Swallowing thickly, Joe just nodded and followed her out of the apartment and back to the car.

**

Here's the next chapter! So, not a whole lot of Nick/Dhen interaction (YET), but I hope you still liked it.

Sorry it's shorter, I felt that was the best place to split it up. Thanks for the reviews, please keep them coming! I want to know what you think..
