Well I'm going to do a little post of what I got out of some of the books I finished recently. What good is a book if you don't share with other people some of what you learned.

Well, of course, I did not catch this on your myspace page, but I am glad I did not miss it. 1984, The Giver, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451 (you should read all of these) make a reader realize that we buy into lies everyday. Some people don't mind the lies; some do. You are young and idealistic. At work they call this youthful enthusiasm. However, the world will try, and probably succeed in beating this out of you. Eventually you will not care if all people are treated equally as long as you and your kids get the best deal. You don't want your kid going to crappy public schools or going to war. Also you have the money, so you will get to make decisions. Who is going to fight for the poor, hungry, hurting people? Not you. You will be callous, rich and won't care. Let someone else take the fall.

However, I do want to encourage you. Read Black like me & Nickel and Dimed; learn about other people and cultures. Love and care for everyone. Try to make a difference. Pick your battles and fight. I hope you will find All Quiet on the Western Front and tons of other phenomenal books because they are portals into other places. Books can show you the inside of a problem or picture, so you can understand how to help or prevent. Read Night. Hopefully we can evaluate problems and discover practical, logical solutions. Maybe two can't make much of a difference, but we are making small waves in our communities. You are not alone. (anyone thinking "Who's with me?" no? fine.)

I will read fast food nation, and I will do more research. Everyone can always try harder. Final note: Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise. Thou my inheritance, now and always. Thanks for the post. ~sarah
