Best day of my life...

Feb 10, 2007 09:20

Two days ago, on Feb. 8th, I had an interview/visit at OHSU School of Dentistry. It went really well! Here's what the day looked like:

8:45 - Arrive at OHSU SOD
9:00 - Check in at the admissions office, fill out oral surgery agreement and writing sample on a
recent news event (I chose water fluoridation in Oregon: very relevant!)
9:30 - Meet with Mark Mitchell, Assoc. Dean of Student Affairs, for informal chat and outline of
the day
10:00 - Meet with Dr. Ron Sakaguchi, a dental materials professor, for my first interview
10:30 - Gown up and observe in the predoctoral clinic (I watched a 4th-year named Stephen McLean
extract a wisdom tooth from an older gentleman; then we chatted about dental school and
military scholarships)
11:30 - Supposed to meet with Dr. Benninger, an anatomy professor, for second interview, but he
did not show up
12:00 - Meet with Katie Paul, a 3rd-year who also went through Dental Hygiene at OHSU, for lunch;
talked about housing and having a car, and the wellness center
1:00 - Sit in on a Pain and Anxiety Mgmt class taught by an oral surgeon; all 2nd-year students
were there
2:00 - Officially time to leave, but Mark found another professor to interview me: Dr. Martha
Thompson, a physiologist and a very sweet lady
2:30 - Run out to the truck in the parking lot and tell Dad and Mom how it went
8:00 - RECEIVED AN ACCEPTANCE EMAIL SIX HOURS AFTER MY INTERVIEW ENDED!!!!!!!

Long story short, I will be attending OHSU School of Dentistry for the next four years. It was my first choice, and I have declined my interview at UCSF and I will decline any offers from other schools. Thank you all for your support! :)
