I'm copying Adi:
Sophomore year in review
OMYGD WHERE DID IT GO? For serious...it like...raced by. In about a month.
I live in the Charles now, right next door to Charles Commons...and Wolman on the other side. Remember Wolman? Except for the AMRS, I've never really left that strip.
I have a wonderful efficiency that still requires more setting up but it's okay. I have a walk in closet and I have to decide what to do with it as soon as everyone moves their crap out of MY closet. I joke...I kid. My friend Talya suggested: make it a dream closet! With all your clothes lined up on one side, your shoes stacked next to each other, a makeup table, a vanity, all your jewelery laid out, and a chair to put yourself together. Actually, my grandma had that. I could tots do that. Or I could buy a few seat couch things (those circle-cushion things that are diagnal--ya know?) and make the room really...cool? Talya gave me white lights to hang up! Score! Now all I gotta do is cut out pink hearts and I'm all set. And possibly put in my butterfly lamp that I got for my Bat Mitzvah.
Or, I could put my bed there, and designate that as my sleeping space. So when I have company, I can close my closet door and my sleeping area. It's a little crazy, but it can work. I have a table! And chairs! And a sweet kitchen area, and I'm also getting a couch and coffee table! Woot.
Okay anyway, back to sophomore year in Review:
September: I move in for early orientation. I finish reading Fall River Dreams about a small town basketball team. Great book. I make new freshmen friends. I don't eat so much. I learn to love Nolan's and Levering. I feel good, but then I become Vitamin D deficient. Adi thinks I'm really cool and skinny, then she realizes I'm sort of ill. We steal a lot of chicken from all high holy day events. We make funny videos and take silly pictures. September was awesome.
October: I coordinate Ramadinner with the MSA. Make more friends! Join the Interfaith Council! Go to DC to see Anna over fall break! Co-coordinate of Ramadinner likes me; realizes it's not mutual, gives me the silent treatment for seven months. I don't do Halloween. I watch the discovery channel with Adi and Allison, who does awful math homework. I watch about Lizzie Borden, which ties back to Fall River Dreams that I had finished read a month earlier. Remember? I use someone for their pizza and free ice cream. In retrospect, I act like a douche. Oh well, I like coldstone.
November: Eta has a tea party. Adi has a movie screening and it...uh..okay. Tenaya and Ariana come home with me for Thanksgiving! We eat pumpkin pie cheescake. Family friends join in a typical show of fun, food, and bit of spectacles.
(WHY DOESN'T HE LOVE ME?!?!)
December: I actually don't remember much. Mikhail Cohen comes to town! Eta befriends her; we all do. She is super cool, we all share in Chanukah delight. Force my way into Hillel brochure pictures. Make a big deal of friending people on facebook. Shit they're gonna find my LJ. Like Mikey did. MIKEY MOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Adi and I take the shuttle to Kagan's house to drop off a paper at 2am in the rain. Omygd. Adi snaps at me in class, I give her the silent treatment for 36 hours. Feh.
Home: I turn 20!! Facebook saddens me again. I go crazy. I go to New York and see Hairspray and burst into tears when Ashley Angel comes onstage. I get a picture with him and Lance Bance, and others.
I return to Hopkins for intersession. I take two wonderful courses: The Dopplenganger in Romantic German Literature and Film, and Intro to Immunology with Lewis Schrager who is from my area, and used to belong to my shul...'nuff said. In German class, I make friends with Arne the teacher/PhD student who grew up in Germany and used to swim. Nice guy; he smokes too much. Later find out he is leaving to become an assistant professor at Wesleyan. I watch scary German movies: "M," Dr. Caligari's Cabinet, and the likes. I read Freud. I read ETA Hoffman's the Sandmann. I learn that while everyone thought that Nathaniel was crazy...turns out he wasn't.
Tenaya flies in from Peabody and lives twenty-three steps away from me. We bond. Michelle comes to visit!!
(Timeless points: I become better friends with Patrice. Adi and I meet Frank in Kagan's class. He thinks I'm Irish Catholic; I am jealous he swims. Adi remains unaffected.)
January: Adi comes back, bearing the burdens of a month of sea...across the sea? Well, not quite...but nuff said. January is gloomy and cold.
I don't remember what happens month by month. I sign up for five classes, I drop two. I meet with Dean Boswell, I get probiotics, and I feel much better! Adi turns 20 and Susie visits and I am no longer afraid of her! I silently cry on the phone while my friends eat Carvel cake in Wolman. I take Intro to Fiction with Blake, aka the greatest, kindest, wittiest albeit most inappropriate professor ever.
I get ignored; I get stared at. I go nuts. I do an experiment to see how certain people will behave and stay an extra hour in Katz's class. Awkwardness ensues. I decide I want to run for fearless leader of Hillel; I stay in the building as much time as I possibly can.
JSA Bar Mitzvah: Karma comes around I am faced with my first official door slam, complementing the implicit one earlier in the semester. Adi flirts like none other. Tenaya solidifies her status as a philo-semite.
JSA Election Preparations: I...well, I work it. No no...I beast it.
Spring Break: Passover is exciting. I am the youngest, so I put up an offer for the afikomen. That's cool. Iggy joins my family the second night! How exciting.
JSA Elections: I beast it. I eat, sleep, breathe Hillel. I take advantage of Sasha's friendship a tad? Regardless, I annoy him to no end. I do not care because I am on a mission. I realize the feh side of people and politics. I emerge unscathed, a winner. Adi and I bond over Celine, Whitney/Britney, and Jess. Shayna joins us. Benzi-Justin-Bobby or whatever his name is returns!
V-Xchange brings A.W. Chai meetings involve yelling and tension. Aliza gets a headache.
Move out: we are herded out like sheep. It is traumatizing. I land in the Charles, where I currently reside. I see Talya and Josh before they depart. Will see favorite seniors. Give staring people silent treatment because I cannot be mature enough to do otherwise. Bond with Greg and Carlos? Use 350 dining dollars between Carlos and Kempton and stock up for my new crib.
Currently: Having just finished the Katz essays, I am updating my livejournal. Will soon return to my room and call Talya before she and Josh leave.
Somewhere along the lines, I also develop an appreciation for talking about tetanus and Elian Gozales. I abrev my words a lot. Cassie and Sluter are somewhere in the mix. Adi continues to be obsessed with my photobooth. It's just unforch.
That's my year, fools. Well..some of it anyway. WOOT.
