This morning, on the drive into work, I had one of those wonderful experiences in life when you've been stuck behind a learner driver for about 30 minutes. Is that a chance to overtake up ahead? No, a string of cars coming the other way. How about now? Nope, overtaking not allowed. Past a bend, up a hill...and into a town with narrow roads and lots of oncoming traffic. A nervous glance at the clock...might be late into work, maybe no spaces left in the car park...
But look! In the distance, a roundabout, the one I turn left at. What lane is he in...will he go straight on...argh, he's straddling both lanes like a, well, like a learner driver. The roundabout approaches...traffic in front and behind is filtering into lanes...he's in the left lane but he might go forwards...and as I really start to lose hope and the imaginary soundtrack crescendos to a peak...time stands still...he signals right. Yes, that's right, the ordeal is over. I speed through the open countryside, open road in front of me, with a sigh of relief.
(I've been at work for 3 days and already I'm turning into a weirdo)
Work's been great so far. Driving to/from work is actually cool, despite the occasional blip, and because the hours are flexible I can get up a bit later in the mornings. Yes, I know, I'm lazy.
