You probably need it to open a door that will have another temple and another group of tiny spirits to gather so you can go down into a ravine and collect magic water to throw on your enemy just after you learn he was working for an even more annoying and powerful guy! Isn't that usually how those stories work?

I don't know about magic water, but I remember something about a mana link. I dunno what that means though.
