The young Italian was crouching next to the pond, looking at a few frogs who were jumping around. Really, the house here was rather tiny and dirty so he had no idea why father had told the driver to drop him of at the stupid farm, but at least he'd be able to avoid his sister for a while.

Ashura's world had at least some animals like normal animals, but even now, sie'd spent very little of hir long life awake and aware. The little hopping creatures were something sie'd seen before, but never had the chance to ask Yasha about. Or any of the others, but it was no good thinking of them without Yasha around to comfort hir.

Spotting another vaguely familiar child, sie offered him a gentle smile.

He looked up as he heard someone approaching.

''Who are you? You don't look like a farmer, but you're the first grown-up I've met here.''

"Ashura."

Sie waved a little bit, and then added, "I haven't seen any other grown-ups, either..." That was very strange. Sie hardly counted as a grown-up, either. If only Yasha had stayed after bringing hir here! Maybe he was just out hunting?

''I'm Hayato. What are you doing here? Are you a teacher?''

"...What's a teacher?" Sie didn't think sie'd ever really heard of whatever that was.

''You don't know what a teacher is?! It's someone who teaches you stuff, like how to read and such. Perhaps you're a peasant after all if you don't know these things..?''

A peasant? Ashura nearly laughed. Even if hir clan had fallen from favor, you couldn't get very much more high-blooded than they'd been, nobles among gods, and hir family the rulers among them.

"I wasn't raised around very many people," sie said, toying with hir almost impossibly long hair. "Perhaps that's why I don't know."

''Oh.. So you didn't go to school at all? How did you learn new things then?''

''Your hair is really long and pretty, but your ears look strange.. Why are they pointed?''

"Yasha taught me. Or--or my other friends." Kujaku especially--he'd known a lot of things.

By this point, Ashura had gotten used to the idea that being Ashura was no longer a crime punishable by anything. It was odd to hir, but sie didn't hesitate to answer, "They look that way because I'm from the Ashura clan."

A clan.. So she wasn't a civilian after all.

''I've never heard of that Family.'' It had to be a small clan, or a foreign one; he knew of all the most powerful mafia families in Italy after all. ''What country are you from?''

That was an odd question. There weren't countries, really, just clan territories under the Emperor's rule.

A human having not heard of the Ashura clan, though... maybe that was normal. They'd fallen from favor and been reduced to just hir three hundred years before the schism, and sie'd slept for a long, long time after it. "...Not really from anywhere." If he didn't know of the Ashura clan, he surely wouldn't know of the Yasha clan, erased from history just as brutally.

''Everyone has to be from somewhere.''

This woman was pretty strange and mysterious. He tried to catch a frog by cupping his hands around one, but it was slippery so it managed to escape easily.

''Do you know what we're supposed to do here?''

"Not really," Ashura answered, feeling a little bit pouty about it. Yasha should tell hir these things!

"It's somehow connected to... to a place I went once, as a child, but that's all I really know."

''What sort of place was that?''
