Okay, so, guess who got up at a time of day typically field-trip early (it would be so totally lame if it weren't awesome). The strange orders and explanations from a light blue fairy are probably the most exciting thing that's ever happened to her, and she's embracing them wholeheartedly. Well, kind of. See, all that stuff about taking them to the town and attacks and whatever... yeah, that's low priority. She said they had like three whole days, right? That's practically a week or something! But some of them are crazy or countries or something (that stuff is weird and she's not sure how much she gets it), so, well, maybe she didn't really say, but. Pathological patients! For whom she's apparently a world-class psychologist! If there's one thing Annuska has it's priorities ( ... )

The cows were milked already.

And he'd fed the animals that he could, since some of them seemed hungry, and walked all around the fields and the gardens, and the priest still hadn't come back to get him, so he guessed there was nothing to do but go to the house (that was a house, right?) and see if the people inside knew how he could go home.

He stopped when he noticed a girl by the door. What was written on her sign? He tried sounding it out by the Latin rules the priests had taught him, then by his own rules that he'd been making up. All those s's and z's and y's and ch's sounded better to him in Polish, but he still didn't know what the word could mean.

Ah, her first patient! He was a little discouragingly small, but then again she probably wouldn't really be able to handle older patients if there were any so that wasn't so bad. She just hoped he wouldn't be too shy to want to spill about himself. "Oh, hi!" She got up and shook his hand. "I'm Annuska. You're up for some psychoanalysis, right? Right?" Patients had this strange tendency to not know what was good for them if they were, you know, kind of crazy.

Poland pulled his hand away from the girl suspiciously. She dressed strangely, moved strangely, used words he didn't understand.

"...Like..." He fought the urge to just run and avoid dealing with the Stranger Situation at all. It was really hard to do. "...Like, what's psy--psyko--that thing you just said?"

But the word "like" is a universal constant, right? \o/ psychoanalolist May 14 2011, 17:50:58 UTC
"It's when you tell someone all about yourself, and then they tell you that all your problems are because of how your mother treated you!" She nodded very seriously. "You have to lie down on a couch to do it and you're supposed to pay the person who helps you out but I don't think anyone here has any money so I'm going to do it for free, isn't that nice?" She was being very charitable to him, really. He didn't know that all that was, like, taken care of or something, but it would be good to make him feel like she was doing him a favor, right?

"But I totally don't have a mother," he said, hoping that would get him out of what sounded like a wicked awkward situation.

She clasped her fingers together in excitement. "Well, that's even better! It's even more obvious that something's wrong." Like, he obviously had no idea how to talk to girls, so. Not having a mother made perfect sense. "So, what about your dad?" She was already taking out her notebook and turning to a new page. This would be great.

Poland wondered if he could, like, run and hide in the garden. Or the barn. The barn was nice, everything inside it was pretty familiar. "I like, don't really have one of those, either...?"

"Ooooh, that's even better." She definitely wrote that down. "So, come on, if you're going to stick around then won't you sit down? So you don't have to like stand around." Well, she meant, if he haaaaaaaad to stand up then it would be okay but sitting down would be so much better because that would totally make him more comfortable.

"It is?" He really wasn't sure about this. He approached the couch, but didn't know if he should really commit to sitting down with her or not...

"Well, you know, it's not like actually good, but it makes it more likely that there's a simple explanation. Same difference. So, come on, won't you sit down?" If he didn't want to, she could always find someone else. That would be kind of mean, but there had to be someone around who was willing to do these things right.

"Explanation for what? God, this is totally confusing!" Poland's brain was starting to hurt.

"You know! Why the way you are! Why you're shy or whatever problems you have. Everyone has some." She's probably being a little more aggressive than she really should, but she can't just let him get out of her reach! That would be totally lame.

"I'm totally not, like, shy or whatever!" He was a nation, and he was small and alone. He couldn't afford for people to think he was weak!

"That was an example." She grinned at that. She totally hit him right on the mark, didn't she? "Nobody's perfect. Maybe you cry yourself to sleep at night or can't tell your best friend you like 'em or get in fights all the time. I don't know since we've like barely talked at all. So come on, sit down?" How could he resist this stunning paragon of cordiality?
