1st Stoplight = [Audio]

[There are some few taps on the PC's mic before Monoko starts speaking.]

Anh, hm... Hello. This is how this thing works, right? I never got used to computers back home...

Well, my name's Monoko. I... I'm not sure why I'm here in this place. I mean, it's great to be alive and all but... this place is a little bit unsettling. [She pauses for a ( Read more... )

[Kanaya sticks to voice, as it seems to be the new girl's preference and she herself can find video a tad too intimate sometimes anyway. She's split between interest in the guest and sympathy for her situation, especially as she seems to have been beaten by some ornerier inmates to the punch.]

So it is possible for others to be brought here even during normal functioning. I'm of course sorry you had to be the subject of said experimentation. I'm Kanaya; it's a pleasure to be introduced.

It's good to meet you too.

[OK, something that Kanaya says pings Monoko's attention. And it doesn't sound... good.]

Hm, what you mean with 'normal functioning'?

Well, when I first arrived here, there was a great deal of confusion and so it was easy to hope that my -- kidnapping [she's finally learned well enough not to say grubnapping and, oh, god, introducing her self without an alien face was a bad idea, well, too late now] was a mere result of all the chaos. But apparently not. It seems to be "normal" here for people to be summoned with reckless abandon and without warning.

[Well, Monoko wouldn't be too surprised to discover Kanaya is an alien. In fact, that will probably make her feel more at home, considering her backstory.

Confusion... This place looks pretty quiet, so far. Maybe... too quiet.]

I see. Who brings people here then?

[She looks a little surprised; really, is she the first to actually try to give Monoko a spiel? She's not the best patient for it, either... well, here goes.]

It's some kind of Earth hospital. Or it used to be. Now a computer named Linda runs it, and so strange events and disparate people are here instead of lunatics and medical treatment. [So Monoko'll find her excuse for home in that. Kanaya finds it more in the being trapped in a spaceship working with aliens... yeah...]

[Hospital, hm? So that explains the bizarre questionnaire and the white walls and how sterile everything looks.]

Well, I was kind of stuck somewhere before getting here, so I don't think it's that bad.

I mean, it's still boring to be trapped somewhere, but at least there's people here.

[Yepppp, pretty much.]

Oh, were you? What an interesting coincidence. I was as well, though not for long, and not completely alone. I'm -- sorry you were. [Or at least she thinks you should be?] But, well, you have come at quite a nice time. It's going to be twelfth perigee's... er, Christmas. It's going to be Christmas soon.

Well, I kind of got used to it after a while. [And Madostsuki sometimes dropped by to visit. Even if she did used that stupid red stoplight on her.]

Ah, it's Christmas then? It's been a while since I celebrated it. [There's a tentative smile from Monoko. OK, this is was better than that stupid cave.]

Exactly how much a person can get used to things is astonishing... [Her heartlessly harsh homeworld is a case in point. Ah, the beauties of evolution.

The cautious hope from Monoko regarding Christmas spreads to Kanaya, too. Okay, this is just so warm and fuzzy, she's going to just be more open now. Yup.] It'll be my first. As my slip a moment ago almost showed, we celebrated a similar but distinct holiday called Twelfth Perigee's Eve back hive. [In her relaxation she monitors her language less closely. Constant self-monitoring for Alternian terminology is such a downer...]

[Welp, Monoko wasn't exactly having a ball inside that dark and dinky cave, so she knows how it is.]

Ah, so you aren't from Earth? I never saw an alien before. [Well, not a legitimate one. She saw those weird creature's back in Mado's dreams, but they weren't aliens.]

That's... actually really cool.

Yes, really; or actually no, I'm really not. Whichever way you'd prefer to describe the situation. [She's... actually really flattered. No one's ever called her alien status properly "cool" before.]

I can visit you for proof if you'd like. Or not. It took me a while to get comfortable with exploring this place so I do understand if you feel tentative.

Ah, well, you can come by to visit me if you want. I mean, it's not because I want proof. I believe you, but, hm, I think I need someone to show me around, I guess?

[OK, Monoko's social skills are really rusty at this point, so if that sounds awkward, don't mind her.]

Ah, good, that's refreshing, I've been disbelieved with more proof. I'm definitely amenable to that. Did you say where your room was, again? I'm already on my way out but obviously wouldn't like to end up on the wrong floor. [She is. Along she walks, faintly audible footsteps.]

Ah, I forgot to tell you my room number. Let' see... [There's a pause. She knows she wrote it down somewhere... Oh, here it is!]

It's C-020. I hope it isn't too far from yours.

Oh, no, it's only a floor away. [Hear faintly her walking up the stairs now.] Do let me know if walking is troubling for you, as this place is full of stairs... [She just... warned Monoko about the stairs. 8^y]

[She sure hears those steps.

And the STAIR WARNING is greatly appreciated.]

Ah, that's good. And I can walk around just fine.
