I'm surprised at how sad and disappointed I was about what happened to the favorite chinese athlete. No matter how much I roll my eyes and dismiss everything about China, I guess can't help but root for her anyway; turning a blind eye when she's screwing up and feeling inexplicably delighted when she gets something right. There's also that deeply familiar feeling that I get whenever I visit, which takes the edge off from the otherwise foreignness of that country.

My dad called yesterday. We don't really have much to talk about, but at the time I didn't want to let him go. I really miss my family.
