Warnings: FINAL BOSS FIGHT SPOILERS. No, not the Avatar. The one after. /tries pitifully to be vague orz. ...Well it's January 31st. If you've played P3, you know what this means. |D;
Dream Effects: [OPTIONAL] - Feel free to tune out at any time! You feel a diamond-strong and utterly unbreakable conviction holding you throughout the entire dream. At first, you feel despair, sadness, hurt, loneliness... Depressing things, not within you, but around you. P3 cast knows. P4 crew will get the feeling from facing the boss in True End. DeSu cast this is like facing Lucifer. Anyone attuned with magic will feel an overwhelming dread, maybe death, and anyone else will feel like they're facing something just too overpowered and inhuman that it's completely invincible. Then, go mostly with the flow, but at the end... You're suffused with an unbelievable power that really gives you the impression that you can do ANYTHING you want to do, and ends with a draining fatigue so great that if you're not fit you may pass out for ten minutes because you just got THAT tired all of a sudden.

You'll feel very sated and happy too, however. Lightly nostalgic, but it's like remembering something fond after having thought that you lost it forever ago.

Gray, black, and every shade in-between. Empty spaces all around. This place has been rendered cold, but it had nothing to do with any actual physical temperature. This was a cold that belonged to the lifeless - a cold that settles the moment a living creature's life is forfeit.

It didn't faze him. Instead, he focused on the core of entity who is the very concept of "End" itself - that being coming from the eerie yellow orb that was the moon, the wrong answer that humanity has wrought upon Earth with their fear, uncertainty, and despair facing life.

It annoyed him, but he wasn't angry. All the people need, then, is another chance. Just as there is shadow because there is light, there is sadness because happiness exists, and despair curses humanity because hope is there to bless it in turn.

He chose to believe for the better, and this sheer conviction that coursed through every single fiber of his body will never have it otherwise.

The deathly orb unleashes a mass of pulsing energy, warping the air itself. Nothing would be capable of dodging something like that.

He took the blow head-on.

Unbearable physical pain struck him at the same time than an impossibly oppressive weariness began to fog up his mind. He shut his eyes, tensed his muscles, and flinched.

Aren't you tired? Isn't sleeping for the rest of eternity so much easier than wade through life again and again every morning?

He held on. No, sleeping isn't better. ...As much as he liked it.

Because he was a curious guy. He WANTED to know what he'll find behind that door, after he gets out of bed, picks up his bag, and goes to greet his friends in the main hall in the morning.
Shakily, he stood up and ran forward to land a slash with his sword, as ineffective as that may be. Still, he watched with clear eyes as the orb began to glow again.

A second hit.

It lands hard, this time, and knocks him off his feet. He audibly winces in pain, but his mind held on.

You are trapped in an endless routine, forced to endure the dullness of repetition each repeating day for as long as you can imagine. Won't you wish for this to be gone? Wouldn't it be better, if you stopped being able to feel all pain, anger, sorrow and hate? No one will feel neglected again. No one will cry again. Everything would be quiet. Everthing would be at peace.

No, because every day is NOT the same. He WANTS to go to school and see what new things the teachers have to tell him, and... sleep through it, maybe, without anyone commenting because he always scored good in the tests anyway. He wasn't the bragging type, but that still gave him a feeling of satisfaction far greater than he'd imagine. He was a spontaneous sleeper, too, so he really won't know if he'll sleep through a class or not until he's attending that class himself.

How can you say that everything is the same when you can't even foresee something like that?
...Man, what a terrible mindset. Mitsuru-senpai would never let him hear the end of this if she knew. That would also make a terrible model for Ken-kun. Good thing Akihiko-senpai is the one who has to worry about being a good example for the kid.

Speaking of which...

"There's nothing we can do?"

"Don't give up! We have to believe in him!"

"Give him strength! T--- -- ---- if you must!"

Are these... their voices?

He blinks, and stands up. Ken-kun just recently freed himself from the shackles of his past; he's got his whole life ahead of him. Akihiko-senpai... needs to hook up with Mitsuru-senpai.

A third blow comes. Straightening himself like he's doing it for the first time, his gaze did not wander as he moved aside by the way that his instincts dictated. The mass of dark energy misses him completely this time.

What of others? Their envy, hatred, greed... Humanity's contempt has hurt countless, and shall only make more victims as civilization continues to progress. Discrimination due to elitism, and isolation because of ostracism... The pain it causes, it is not better to be together or alone. Should it not be easier for it to just end?

...Nah. He WANTS to be there in class to hear the stupid but entertaining rumors - most of them revolve around who's dating who anyhow. And funny enough, his name gets whispered pretty often, to his quiet amusement. He also WANTS to be there when his friends are troubled and need to vent their pains, because then he can do something to make them smile again. They say sorrow is halved and joy is doubled when shared; it's very true, as far as he's concerned, so he always enjoyed lending a friendly ear if anyone needed to ramble to him their latest ups and downs of the day. It's true that people can be petty sometimes, but the world still held kindness and compassion too, and it's in everyone.
Which reminds him. And Junpei wonders why he's the butt monkey so often - Yukari's right. He needs to try to be more serious if he wants people to actually take him more seriously for a change. Fuuka is also right about Yukari; she needs to find more reasonable and polite ways to turn guys down if she doesn't want to be labeled as someone with impossible standards. ...Which in turn, makes Junpei right about Fuuka; if she wants people to stop presuming things about her, then she needs to speak up what's on her mind, too.

"Yeah, I'm willing to ---- ----, too!"

"He's going to face it all by himself!"

"No he's not alone! I won't let him ---!"

... He also had a bet with Junpei about Mitsuru and Akihiko, didn't he? A week of ramen at Hakagure. "They'll get together eventually, even if senpai isn't very good with girls."

Yeah, that's the spirit. They totally will. Junpei laughed at him back then, but give it a few years. He'll see.

The fourth one drops. He closes his eyes as it hits him - and it did absolutely nothing at all. He opens his eyes, rushes forward, and strikes another blow. It didn't matter how much that did - he's doing something that he can do, and as long as he keeps this up, he can be satisfied.

Oh, and know what else he wants? He WANTS to be there when it's time to walk home, after school. To watch the children run around and play, the housewives gossip, the students bicker, and maybe - go somewhere with a friend. Even if it's simple things, that's something that everyone can do. Doesn't matter if you're a student or not, if you're human or not, if you can talk or not - anything that can feel can enjoy the moment just for what the world already has, and appreciate all the little things that it held.
Koro-chan understood, even as a monk's dog. Aigis understood, even if she was a manufactured battle droid. And... Shinjiro-senpai did too, even if he frequented the less savory corners of Port Island. Port Island Station's back alleys may be dreary, but the place itself was upbeat - it's where the movie theater and the florist are, not to mention that it was one of the best spots to watch a sunset on the entire island.

"Arf Arf!"

"I won't allow this w---- to be ---------!"

"Alright... Let's do this."

If he doesn't do this right, the dog will be disappointed in him. And how low can a man sink, to have his trusty canine companion frown upon him? Aigis has gained her own free will. He's still not sure how she did it, but machine or not, she's her own girl and lives her own life now - and he'd be damned to have to cut that short, when he's directly responsible for that change in her. As for Shinjiro-senpai... He wouldn't be surprised if the man came back from the grave and whacked him with that bus stop sign if he screwed up.

Damn straight that'll hurt. The others would probably approve, though.

Good thing he now felt as good as new, then. The sword was still in his hand, but it was useless now. He knew exactly what he had to do.

There is still many things that he would want. He WANTS to be there and see his roommates when he gets home, pet the dog, greet his friends, talk over supper, and then wade through his long but easy homework. Maybe read a book after or watch some TV and enjoy some time alone - or catch an episode of Phoenix Ranger Featherman R too, if it's Sunday night. With both Ken-kun and Akihiko-senpai, and maybe some others too, if he was lucky and everyone else felt homey as well.
But most of all?

He wanted everyone else to feel like that, too. No matter how boring they think their lives are, no matter how deep in the hole they consider themselves to be in right now.

It was an idealistic wish. You can help influence someone else, but the one who ultimately operates the change in their life can be no other than the person him -or her- self.

Which is why he'll do everything in his power to assure that this will not end before it has even begun.

Which is also why he can do this with no regret - with happiness, even, on a level that can almost be considered as childish.

Didn't they all promise, after all?

He looked up with bright eyes as a blinding light began to flood the darkness. Every drop of energy is leaving his body, and he began to feel light. But it was so warm, and so bright...

And with an almost imperceptible smile dancing on the corner of his lips, he raised his left index, and reached out for tomorrow.

...

......

...... ......

10 more minutes. He won't be late. He'll be there. Promise.

[Minato... doesn't wake up.

He's still sleeping. You can either wait a while for him to answer or try to shout loud enough to get him to crawl up from where the Dreamberry is, on the night stand. :|b]
