7/6/10 Serially

Harpreet, Alap and I are sitting in one of the conference room waiting for everyone else to show up for morning report.

“Jose, what if I were to tell you that there were a lot of girls who want to hook up with you?” says Harpreet.
After a pause I swallow, “you mean like at the same time?”
“No,” she replies
“Oh so like serially, you mean like one right after the other?” I question.
A snicker escapes from Alap.
“I’m just saying there are some third years. Actually one third year likes you,” she adds, “how would you feel about that?”
“Can you tell me who it is?” I ask
“No, I can’t say anything,” she states “It’s not me, by the way. I don’t like you. Well I like you, just not like that.” After another pause she keeps going. “Well maybe if we were drunk.”
“Wait, you mean if you were drunk, or if I were drunk?” I ask
“Both of us. If we were both drunk,” says Harpreet. “Then maybe I’d let you take advantage of me.”
Up until then I had been able to keep the conversation from getting too awkward. But Harpreet had managed to burst right through any of the defenses that sleep deprivation had failed to. I turn to Alap and apologize that he has to be here for this conversation.
