|| Mingler : Snow Ball War Sign Up : You Been Thunderstruck ||

It had started out as simple nostalgia; this is going to be Dean Winchester's first winter at the Mansion, and Hisoka Kurosaki has fond memories of last year.  The question of snow seemed a rather large one, ridiculously important in a way no other aspect of weather really is, but that's probably more to do with what can be done with snow that ( Read more... )

Catherine is trying to write, but the squabble between Dean and Hisoka is very distracting, and so she sets it aside. "Mister Winchester... might I ask what is going on?" she asks, a little cross, but careful not to show it.

Dean jumps a little at his name being called, distracted mid-insult from what he was saying to Hisoka to look guiltily over his shoulder. His mildly harrassed expression melts instantly to a broad, charming smile.

"Hey, sweetheart - me'n my friend here were just trying to settle a differen of opinion," the hunter replies, turning towards her. "Wanna help?"

"I would be glad to be of assistance," she says. "But might I ask, what seems to be the cause for this squabble?"

"Sure can," he replies, glancing back at Hisoka before returning his attention to Catherine with feigned exasperation. "This clown here seems to think he can take me and anyone who stands with me in a snowball war. Ain't that the silliest thing you ever heard?"

He's not exactly grinning, but it's lingering there around the corners of his mouth and eyes.

Her smile grows downright mischievous. "A snowball war? Oh, that is a worthy challenge," she says. "My brothers and I used to do battle with some of the children in our village: my eldest brother James built the most splendid snow forts." Cathy's long dormant tomboy side has reawakened at this challenge.

Ah, there's the grin. He knew he liked this girl. "Awesome - did he teach you any of it? I'm lookin' for some seasoned snow veterans to flesh out my roster, here."

"Indeed, he did: my mother did not approve, since she thought it unladylike, but her disapproval only inspired my brothers to include me in their games all the more," she says, impishly.

Dean waves a hand dismissively.

"Ladylike, shmadylike - I'd like to formally invite you to continue the tradition here, with me, on my team to destroy all comers." He's still grinning.

"Then count me as one of your soldiers," she says, grinning broadly.

"The prettiest one yet," Dean agrees. Then, because he catches himself, he grins wider and makes it a joke. "Besides me, of course."

"Indeed, we have a handsome commanding officer, though the opposition is quite finely-made as well," she says. "Not nearly as you, though, Commander Winchester."

Dean pulls a face at that last bit, trumping the impish expression he'd started at Catherine's comment on their opposition.

"Whoa whoa whoa, there - just Dean. I ain't tryin' to push some paper," he says, making jokes at the expense of commissioned officers everywhere.

"Ahh, but you are the rare commander who laughs at danger and forges into the thick of battle alongside his troops," she says, serious and playful at the same time.

"I'm gonna end up in another book at this rate, aren't I?" he jokes back, glancing around for his plate of cookie bribes. There aren't many left - and that's mostly his fault, truth be told; sweet tooth three miles wide on that one - but he picks the plate up and offers her one anyway. The remaining ones still have the post-it notes stuck, badly, to the bottom of them contracting the eater for Team WINchester.

"Perhaps, but we shall see: the next tale is a romance novel and I am not sure that I can fit you into it," she says, grinning. "But perhaps you shall grace the pages of the next one that I pen."

Dean pulls a face, and speaks in mock-offense. "That hurts, sweetheart. I can be romantic!"
