[Crack Plot] "An alleluia echoes within the shadow of a collapsed dream "

Muraki has been a bit invisible for the past few weeks, digging in the esoteric section of the library and researching what might be called 'grey magic'. Something easier said than done: there's only a handful of books by Christian Day and Constantinos's style puts his teeth on edge: too "dark of the darkity dark darkness of the darkity dark dark", to say nothing of the wall bang-inducing speciesist remarks about energy feeders.

He's had to kluge what he can from what he's found, but tonight he's "cleansing the temple" of his Self. The full moon at this, the darkest time of the year, is the time to enact this, to reconsecrate the temple that he allowed to be defiled. And it was at this time of the year that his mentor had dedicated him to the darkness, so many years ago, when he thought he had gotten a grasp of what he was, before he let that darkness consume him from within. Earlier in the day, he'd headed out into woods to the stone table, where he set up the small bonfires at five points around it. In the early evening, he took a long, meditative bath, then spent an hour clearing his head and soul before making the last preparation. Before gathering his ritual implements into the satchel he carries them in, he strips out of his normal garb and dons a plain white, unlined cotton kimono, the kind generally put on the dead for traditional funerals.

He's been through the darkness and barely came out of it with his sanity intact, but this time, he's approaching it with eyes with open and fully aware of the dangers involved. This could reawaken his inner self, or it could simply nudge it in its slumbers. What it will be, remains to be seen, as he heads out into the night. the moon rising over the treetops, silvering the autumn leaves and lighting his path through the forest...

Title taken from "Red Moon" by Kalafina. Oddness is afoot: The moon will be turning red as it did when he put the curse on Shilo Wallace back in the day. The first commenter can follow His Paleness into the woods and witness the ritual. Others can encounter him afterward as he 'comes down' from the ritual, or they can wibble amongst each other at the early Halloween spookiness (ie. the damn red moon again).
