1, 2, 3, breathe in.
Brett knows he's not supposed to be out running, and that his mother would have a conniption fit if she knew that he was out running alone no less. She always freaks out about that, and though he knows there's good reason for it - he misses Dad and Jeremy, too, and he can't ever forget what his mother reminds him about every. single. day. - he's decided that it's worth the risk to get some alone time, to clear his head. He doesn't change forms, so maybe that will keep the freaking out to a minimum; that's where the real danger is, after all, not for some random high school kid out jogging in the woods. But he can't pretend he'd care if it doesn't, because he won't. He just needs to run.
4, 5, 6, breathe out.
After everything that happened with Andie and Charlie and Buckley and what Lexie admitted to him that day in the forest and the vampires, Brett has a lot to think about. He's ashamed of what he did and he's been avoiding his own pack ever since, but he can't get away from the gnawing resentment and what feels like the huge, gaping wound of Andie's rejection; that was the cause of it, but he won't shirk responsibility for it, not when Charlie almost died. He doesn't like the kid, but he never wanted him dead. And now Andie is gone, and his mother is more paranoid than ever, and the pack is all riled up...
1, 2, 3, breathe in.
He was too busy thinking to notice when it actually happened. What he does know (4, 5, 6, breathe out) is that when he stops to catch his breath, there's something different about the air he's sucking down like he can't get enough of it. It smells different, or tastes different, or feels different - he can't quite tell, but it makes him uneasy. He considers, for a moment, changing and getting the hell out of here - what if it's Devon? What if it's the vampires? Mom would never recover - but doesn't move, for a moment, from where he's bent over to catch his breath. He doesn't recognize the forest around him, and that's weird, because he's been jogging the trail he'd chosen since he found it three years ago; but the house he can see just through the trees looks like it definitely belongs somewhere in or near The Gates. And there's no real reason to panic, otherwise. He must have just been too wrapped up in his thoughts and took a wrong turn or something.
Breathe in. Breathe out.
Pulling at the collar of his grey Gates Academy workout tee, Brett decides to walk towards the house; he can just explain that he's lost and needs directions to get home. Just a vague idea will do - he'll cover the distance easily once he knows which way to go.

Other relevant info: Brett comes from after the conclusion of the first and only season of The Gates, so playing with me has potential to spoil you for the entire series if that's something you're interested in. Also, Brett is a werewolf and can change at will to his wolf form (which he has complete conscious control of), so if you'd like to thread with him as such, just let me know; and any character that can sense this about him is welcome to do so. Other than that he's a typical 17-year-old from modern America, with a lot on his plate - both normal and supernatural!
