Sooner or later, once Jack's settled in, he may find himself being followed and watched by a pretty if slightly creepifying young girl. She's mostly keeping out of sight, if not exactly hiding.

River's sneaking today. We're not sure why.

He might be scouting out a room to crash in for the few hours of sleep that he needs at night, not that he's going to stick to one room: he's a rover by nature.

He might not have noticed her just yet, but she's likely not going to be able to avoid the hum of memories flitting through his head: something that might be the Crab Nebula viewed from above, the scent of a man's aftershave (Ianto's), four notes of a Glenn Miller tune, the feel of play-wrestling in the sand with Grey... things that come the closest to home to him.

She's drawn in and wants to run away at the same time. So instead she does neither, continuing to lurk mostly out of sight. If she eventually picks up on the fact that he's a friend of the Doctor, though, that'll be a point or ten in his favor.

A few less than polite things might pass through his head, then the image of the face of the Doctor that she knows passes through his memory, followed by the face of the Ninth Doctor, during their visit to Kyoto at the end of the Heian Era, before they ended up getting shanghaied to Satelite 5.

River moves cautiously closer to him, stiffly as if she might turn and run at any moment, watching him wide-eyed through the stray pieces of hair clinging to her face. One hand clutches her opposite arm, fingers clenching and twisting in the fabric of her sleeve.

The movement likely catches his attention and he turns to look at her, smiling (she's easy on the eyes and he can't help himself). "Hey there, have you been following me like a little shadow? Couldn't have a prettier shadow, if that's the case," he says.

"Not from around here," she says, sounding oddly lucid for her behavior. "Are you."

"Nope, I take it nobody here is," he says. "Let's say I'm from a lot of places." And as he says this, the memory of salt air on the Boeshane Peninsula passes through his mind, as well as a view of a ringed planet and the feel of his subterranean nook under the Hub.
