Couldn't help myself... theboywho_lived July 31 2011, 01:57:53 UTC
Harry is walking down one of the corridors when he sees the lady - and mistakes her for somebody else.

"Professor McGonagall?!"

She's still exploring the corridors of the Mansion, but she pauses, eying the young man with the eyeglasses. "Oh, no, I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I'm not," she replies. "I'm Mrs. Emmeline Fox."

He opens his mouth, closes it again, blinks then sighs. "Oh... Sorry about that. You just look like somebody I know."

He then smiles. "I'm Harry. Harry Potter."

Really! I realized the possibility for mistaken identities when I started making icons for Emmie non_foxy_widow August 7 2011, 05:31:20 UTC
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mister Potter," she says, smiling and offering her hand to him. "I hope I reminded you of someone whose company you enjoyed."

Mistaken RP identities are fun! theboywho_lived August 7 2011, 11:10:24 UTC
He takes her hand and shakes it awkwardly. "She was a teacher of mine. Really strict but she was - is - a really good person."

"Sometimes the most strict teachers are the best ones: that strictness often means that they care enough about their students to discipline them," she says. "Might I ask, what school did you attend?"

Here it comes...

"Hogwarts. It's... um.. a school for magic."

Her mind parses that as stage magic: it stands to reason that a stage magician would need to learn his craft somewhere. "I see. And how long have studied your craft?"

"Since I was eleven." He's relieved she's not feaking out, not realising the misunderstanding.

"And you are grown now? You must be a master at your craft," she replies, innocuously.

"I'm not as good as some but I can do some things okay," he says modestly.

"I'm far from an expert and so I would be a poor judge of your craft, if I saw some of it," she admits. It's a subtle invitation, a gentle "if it's not too much trouble".

"Oh. You want me to do a spell?"

A spell? Hm... "If it isn't too much trouble, I wouldn't mind seeing some small display," she replies.

"Um," Harry glances around then takes out his wand. He does the first charm that comes into his mind - levitating a nearby book.

She blinks at this, emitting a soft little "Oh!" and approaches the book carefully. She's heard of stage magicians using mirrors or other tricks to achieve illusions like this, and so she might carefully reach out, feeling for the thread that might be holding the book up.
