[Introduction - Not Quite James Bond]

Jul 18, 2011 23:55

Eames awakes late in the afternoon to the depressingly familiar sound of over-large feet kicking their way through the front door of his flat. A lurch of adrenaline propels him up and out of bed before his body remembers how hungover he is, a vile headache stabbing him between the eyes and temporarily crippling him whilst the ominous feet stomp ever closer.

He has just enough time to fling on yesterday's clothes (green corduroy trousers and a loud mustard yellow shirt, a particularly fetching combination) and fumble his ubiquitous bag of quick getaway essentials from under the bed, jamming his feet into his shoes as a trio of excitingly muscular thugs barge into the room.

There's an odd, pregnant pause in which they all stare at each other without blinking. The tallest of the three smiles at Eames, almost kindly, flexing his scarred knuckles like the worst kind of movie cliche. Eames spares him a cheeky smile back and makes a break for it, flinging himself out of the open bay window. He loses consciousness halfway into the fall.

When he awakes, he's sprawled across a sofa in a huge and unfamiliar room, getaway bag gone but hangover fully intact.

"... A somewhat softer landing than Mrs Blennerhasset's geraniums," he concludes.
