[Open Post] Titus Langourous

Jul 10, 2011 17:01

Most days, when rehearsals for Cyrano's play aren't keeping him busy, Titus is out riding the trails in the garden or the more-traveled ones in the woods, but on especially warm days, he retreats to the coolness of the library where he's been curling up with the stack of books that the Doctor helped him to find, or with a few odd books of poetry he ( Read more... )

Billy's been settling in very well and has gotten used to (well as used to as he can), being in some kind of crazy prison. At least there aren't any experiments...

Still, it's a nice day and while Billy's not much of a sun bather, it's too nice of a day to waste inside. He's found some interesting fantasy books he hasn't read and is taking one out to read.

He starts a bit at seeing Titus. "Oh! Um, sorry. Didn't know anybody else was out here..."

He smiles a bit at Billy and sits up. "Master Bully, it is a pleasure to see you; have you settled well into this place?" he asks.

Billy relaxes a bit and nods. "Yeah, as well as I can I guess. How are you?"

"I have been well: if my guesses are correct, I have been here for nearly a year. It was the summer when I arrived, and here it is summer again," he says.

A year. Billy manages not to choke or say something inappropriate, but it's a near thing.

"At least the weather's consistent," he tries for nonchalant. "Right? I mean, it doesn't like, rain fish or anything."

He snerks dryly. "I would not put it past this realm if something like that were to occur. In the autumn, one night, there were gigantic insects running about the house and garden."

"Giant bugs? Were they, like, attacking everyone or just eating all the stuff in the gardens?" Because giant bugs isn't out of the realm of superhero things.

"It happened late in the autumn, and there was little left in the garden, but they were chasing people about the house and grounds. A caterpillar as big as I pursued me through the yard," he replies, shuddering at the memory.

Billy tries not to shudder "That's... I really hope that doesn't happen again."

"I pray that it does not, that whatever powers are at work in this place will not play that prank ever again," he says, shuddering for the both of them. "Do you think that there could be magic at work in this place, to cause such strange things?"

Billy thinks about it. "It's possible? I mean, I'm not an expert or anything..."

"A possibility is good enough and your judgment is far better than mine: I know nothing of magic, as there was no magic in Gormenghast," he replies, though his typist maintains there was a trace of it and the Rituals might have had a small amount of magic to them.

"Only a few people have magic in my world," Billy says. "It's not exactly common or anything there."

A thought crosses his mind. "Is magic something that can be learned, or is it a talent one is born having?" he asks. "I ask because I wonder if I might learn some simple form of magic."

Billy thinks about that. "Um... where I'm from, it's something you're born with I think, but that doesn't mean you can't learn something I don't think? I don't really know."

If Titus wants to learn magic, he could hit up Stark. Stark doesn't really teach it normally though...

"I see," he says. "It was worth inquiring," he adds, with an apologetic half-smile.

He's willing to try his hand at it, though knowing this guy, it's likely to have more than a few bugs in it.
