The smallest
blessing, Chaucer is well aware, is that it is not winter. Most people
might put that particular blessing further up the priority list, but most people
do not have skin that tends to sunburn in front of candles and veritably glow in
the dark; besides, it's his priority list, and he'll arrange it how he
likes. He has very little else to do, anyway, while resolutely placing one
bare foot in front of the other.
One would think
he'd learn. He is not a stupid man, not really. Only, apparently,
stupid in the way that all mortal men are, which is to say highly susceptible to
the whims of the flesh. What he needs, he decided a mile or so back, is
not new habits - but a new social circle in which to exercise them. One
that will not resort to, quite literally, taking the clothes off a person's back
to settle their debts.
Okay, strike that
first statement: The smallest blessing, Chaucer is now aware, is that his
clothes had more value this time around than previously, allaying the need to
take any of it out of his lightly crisped hide. So when he spots the
mansion in the distance - all of the countryside looks basically the same, so he
has not noticed if he has changed worlds, only that there is an end in sight -
the only real problem he has besides sore feet and pink skin is a lack of
attire, not any broken bones or bruised flesh.
Geoff spares a
brief thought to the prayer that there are no high brow ladies near any windows
to see his approach; he is not shy in the least, of himself, but occasionally
one finds oneself in the company of particularly prickly Lords or Sirs that take
offense to the wisdom and artistry of God in the naked human form. Other
than that, though, he is merely relieved at the prospect to trade a bit of
writing or poetry, perhaps, for some water and maybe a cloak or some
sandals. His stride takes on more purpose as he sets his course.

Name:
Geoffrey "Geoff" Chaucer
Fandom: A Knight's Tale
Media: Movie ONLY - not intended to be historical
Typist: A.J.
Other relevant info: Chaucer is taken from after the movie ends; I'm
assuming William and the others settled down to their new lives and Geoff
eventually got bored and wandered off again. Also, yes, he's nekkid
- apparently it's tradition? -_- That's what he tells me, anyway, so
typist apologizes if anyone is offended. He'll put on clothes as soon as
they're offered, though, so second and on commenters can assume he's wearing
SOMEthing. Also, I cannot say this enough: NOT intended, at all, in any
way, to be the real Chaucer. I know nothing about him. Sorry if that
annoys! Title of post and cut-text taken from Angels and Airwaves'
The
Adventure.
