Jim Gordon took a deep breath, straightened his tie, and slowly climbed the stairs toward his home where his wife and children were waiting. He was late again, he'd called hours ago and told them not to wait on him to have dinner. He'd throw some leftovers in the microwave and just deal with the accusing looks from his wife. She'd been after him to leave Gotham. Move back to Chicago, to Metropolis, to anywhere that wasn't here. He just hoped that they could avoid going back over that particular argument tonight, he was bone tired and he knew that hearing their parents fight bothered the kids. Maybe they could spare them that for one night.
Slowly he unlocked the door and let himself in, waiting for his wife's questions about where he's been, but abruptly he realized that something was very wrong. That wasn't his carpet. And the enormous room that he saw as he raised his head was definitely not part of his modest little house. He took a deep breath and turned around, freezing as he realized that the familiar, dark city street behind him had been replaced by a large, sunny lawn. Between the two it looked more like he'd wandered into Wayne Manor than his own house in Gotham, if Wayne Manor wasn't still being reconstructed after that fire.
Jim turned back inside, blinking at the strange room behind his glasses, and wondering what the hell had just happened. Barbara would be furious.
