Well..that was fun.

He arrives much the way he went out, at least from his perspective. Light, burning, pain. Still he doesn't cry out and as the effects begin to wear off and his vision clears finds himself not exactly where he expected. The only telling sign of what he's just endured is a scorched hole in his shirt and a large burn on his chest, remnants of the ( Read more... )

It might be the following night when he comes across a pretty girl coming down the hallway, a candle in hand and carrying a thick book under her arm. She's rather a winsome little thing, dressed like she wandered in out of a Jane Austen movie.

He very nearly bumps into her, he's still trying to figure out exactly what's going on. He takes a step back, about to say something more than a little rude, though he stops himself, still not sure about all that goes into this place. "Rather late for a nice young thing like you to be wanderin' about, don't you think?"

She starts a bit when she sees him, but she smiles, a little nervously yet amused. "Oh, I have been staying up late reading: the atmosphere of the shadowy room helps enhance the atmosphere of the horrid tales that I read," she says.

Laughing he replies, "Is that so?" He shakes his head. "Love, if you'd seen half the things I have you wouldn't be so keen on shadows."

She looks up at him, puzzled. "What do you mean? Don't tell me that there are real vampires in your world," she asks, sounding a bit delighted and a little apprehensive.

Oh does he toy with the fun he could have putting on his game face right now, it's been a while since he's given anyone a good scare. But the girl is friendly and a small pang of those damn memories reels him back in. His face remains the same and instead he just nods.

"Vampires, demons, you name it. And believe me you don't want to be runnin' into any of them nasty bu--" He pauses, rethinking the swearing. "--them nasty things in the middle of the night. Or the day for that matter."

"You mean to say that there are horrid creatures which can emerge in the daylight? I thought that the rising sun sent those ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggedly beasties fleeing for their hiding places," she says. But she sounds just a little concerned.

He chuckles a little. "No, love. There's definitely more 'n one ghoulie or ghostie who can pop out in the daylight and scare the life right out of you. And believe you me, if vampires stick to the shadows they can walk in the day all they'd like."

"I see...how then is one to stay protected from such beings, if they can walk abroad so easily?" she asks, genuinely worried now. Maybe the books she's been reading got it wrong...

"A cross'll do you good. Best to wear one around your neck. Garlic-- is an irritatin' thing but none so effective as throwing a bit of holy water. And then the wooden stake to the heart'll have 'em dust in the wind." He smiles and gives a good nod. "Of course then sometimes there's good vampires who want nothing more than to have a good time and won't do you no harm at all."

"I doubt that I have the strength to use a wooden stake, and I would hardly want to use it on any vampire unless I knew that they were a threat to me or to anyone else," she says. "I would think there are kindly and harmful folk among vampires as there are among mankind."

Typist thinks it would be a riot if a Giles were to arrive at the Mansion and if Catherine started taking slayer lessons with him. Cathy the vampire slayer, ala "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, anyone...?

"You'd be surprised. Been more than a few girls in my time that had the strength. And you can be sure most vampires 'd sooner do you harm than fall madly in love with you and whisk you away to their gloomy castle." His mind definitely begins to drift near the end of that sentence, back to a place that had a little more hell mouth and a lot less strangers.

"I suppose that life, whether it involves mankind or vampires, is never entirely as it appears in a novel," she says. "But I give you my word, I shall take care around any children of the night whom I might encounter in this place."

"Best to know that by word of mouth rather than experience, I can guarantee you that. But like I said, 's only most will want to do you harm, a good number. A fellow like me though, ain't gonna harm your pretty little head."

"You had every chance to attack me if you wanted to, but since you haven't yet, I know that you won't," she says. "You seem more noble than some men."

"Not in the least, love. If you knew me better you'd take that back, I've no doubt. Though you're right about the attacking bit, I'm not going to go after you. But just because a person don't attack you first thing doesn't make that always the case. You should be more careful when you talk to strangers, love."
