Echo found that this whole business of adventure and travel was quite more involved than he'd thought. His adventures at the castle were nothing compared to what the whole world had to offer. Still, he pushed on and as the moon went from full to new to full again, he was grateful that his four legs allowed him to move faster than human's own two legs did.
This forest wasn't the Megaforest, but it was still quite big. Echo sniffed the air again, but he could only smell cold and the scents of animals he didn't know. Looking up, he tried to find any birds or other creatures that he might ask for directions. It had been a month and he was getting quite hungry again...
"Snow, snow!" Was all the big black birds cried and the little red birds only told him to push ahead and that there would be food there and if he could please not eat them, they would be most grateful.
So Echo pushed on ahead, coming across the snow the black birds had promised. It was deep, but he was small and light (thinner now after a month of not eating anything) and he could walk over the top of the tighter packed parts of the snow.
It wasn't long before a great house came into view and Echo paused, sitting down to look over the building. It did not have the feeling of death and horror that Ghoolion's castle had, but it wasn't totally welcoming. There was a scent he didn't like coming from the strange forest, but he didn't know what it was yet.
Still, he was hungry so there was nothing to do but look around for someone that might have some food to spare.

Other relevant info:Echo is a crat, a creature that looks exactly like a domestic cat, but he can speak any language, so if your character is speaking a special language, he speaks that. Taken from the end of the book, Echo is from a place where weird is normal so don't worry about freaking him out at all. He's very friendly, though he might not trust everyone right away.
