[Joint post] A long time coming

Feb 18, 2011 00:22

It's taken them a bit to come out with the news - it's made them both exceedingly happy, but it was no secret to anyone that not everyone concerned would be pleased for them.

Nonetheless, no-one is family-oriented like a Feanorian, and Pandora herself could not keep it to herself any longer. This, in her case, was made more raw by the fact that the ( Read more... )

You didn't really think that you could get away without speaking to this one, did you? And Curufin is not going to be happy. Which is...to say the least. No matter how much he has been trying lately, and wants to make amends with his son...

He does not like Pandora. For making him... say things, if nothing else. (Also, Daddy doesn't like her. That's reason enough.)

He comes downstairs and stops on the bottom step, all expression draining from his face except for the 'dangerous' one. And staring at his son and the vampire, standing in a manner that it would be difficult to mistake.

He waits. Explanation, please?

For a moment, Celebrimbor's expression can be summed up as, "...Oh crap." Then he takes a deep breath and gets it under control. "....Father."

Pandora's face falls to a carefully neutral expression. She doesn't like this either - and is inclined to keep things polite.

And she inclines her head in greeting, though she'll let Celebrimbor do the talking.

She won't let Curufin do any hitting, though. Over her (very literally) dead body, she says.

Curufin doesn't even look at Pandora. Just at his son, and his eyebrows lift, faintly. "Were you planning to tell me?" he says, voice deadly quiet, and soft. "Or did you think that you could merely do whatever you like, without so much as a word to your father?"

Cele probably recognizes that voice, and it's quite a bit worse than the yelling one.

Oh this is not going to be pleasant. "We are planning to tell everyone. And...we would hope that everyone would be happy for us." He takes a deep breath. "We are betrothed, father."

If Celebrimbor and Pandora weren't holding hands before, they probably are now.

The vampire's golden gaze shifts to Curufin, waiting.

She's almost daring him to say something derogatory about that. Because she will not stand for such abuse.

Curufin looks at Pandora. Very briefly. And then back to Celebrimbor, a clear dismissal. "I'm sorry," he says, voice still deadly quiet. "I am under the impression that you are informing me of a fact. Surely I am mistaken, given that it is customary to request permission of one's father before taking...drastic action."

"I'm not a child, father. And I love her." And he thinks it would be worse to have asked for and been denied permission and then gone ahead anyway.

"And I love him," Pandora can't help but murmur, certainly audibly enough to any elven ears, including Curufin's.

"You are still my son," Curufin says, and his eyes flick to Pandora. His voice lowers a little and he says, simply, "Stay out of this. In fact, I think it would be best if you gave myself and my son a moment alone. I was under the impression I had made myself clear. Apparently, I have not."

"Anything that you would say to me can be said in front of Lydia," Celebrimbor says, standing up to his father but holding tight to Lydia's hand.

"I stand by my love," Pandora replies stoutly. "Speak freely, my lord. I promise to be gentle."

She smiles. Yes, it's a bit toothy.

Curufin just looks back at her. Evenly. Deliberately. He will show no nervousness, not here, not now. And he is angry, oh yes. "Very well," he says, and turns his eyes to his son, proceeding to pretend as though the vampire is not there. "Your grandfather," he says, "Did you at least speak to him, if not to me?"

"No, we have not seen him yet. But grandmother has given us her blessing." And that has to count for more than a little. Even if he's also dreading telling grandfather. Feanaro won't be happy.

"Your lady mother has volunteered to organize the wedding," Lydia adds seriously, "doubtless she would be displeased if there were any disturbances."

Yes, that would be a veiled... something. We're not sure what.

Don't you want your son to be happy? (No, she's not projecting that. Yet.)

Curufin's mouth tightens. "I didn't ask about Amil," he says, after a moment to collect himself. "I asked about Feanaro. Your grandfather, your tutor. Ignoring me, perhaps, I could forget - your mother was always willful as well - but ignoring him - I think not."

He swings his gaze toward Lydia, and sneers, ever so slightly. "You mistake yourself if you think that carries any weight with me."
