Mattie sleeps well, considering the long day she's had. Little Blackie is nearby her, which comforts her and makes her feel safe. She's still afraid of the snakes that come out at night even though Rooster told her that they don't attack young girls, but for now, she tries to forget that

Asato doesn't come into the Mansion often, but he can be found in the forest nearby as he checks and resets some of his traps.He never catches anymore than he can eat or use of course, and he's always willing to share or talk to new people.

Mattie is out exploring again, and stumbled upon--well, she's not sure what this creature is, but she's determined to avoid it. She stands away from Asato, careful to stay silent. However, she steps on a stick by accident, and gasps.

Aw. He'd be sad if he could read minds, but Asato has keep hearing and his ears swivel towards the sound first. He turns and fixes a bright blue gaze on the stranger.

"Hello. Are you lost?" His voice, while deep, isn't unkind and sounds merely curious.

[gritted]

She gulps. "--Who are you?"

[misborncat]

"Asato. I live in these woods. Who are you?" He straightens up, brushing off his hands on his pants. "Are you new here?"

[gritted]

She nods shakily. "--Yes. My name is Mattie Ross. Why do you look like that?" She doesn't mean to be impolite, though.

His ears flick. "The same reason you look like that I think." Asato's tail waves absently around his legs. "I was born this way."

[gritted]

She blinks. "That is not natural."

We're so sorry she's being rude, Asato.

[misborncat]

Asato doesn't see it as rude, but he is a bit ... hurt. "Where I'm from, everyone has proper ears and tails. You'd be seen as the one that's not natural."

His tone isn't defensive as he's just pointing out a fact.

[gritted]

"Where I come from, you would be seen as very strange indeed."

[misborncat]

"Then it's good that we're both here, where neither of us is strange."

[gritted]

"I suppose it might be, yes."

[misborncat]

"And you might want to be careful," he adds, crouching down to fix his trap before picking up his catch of the day. Quail. Yum.

"Some people here look even stranger than you, but aren't very friendly."

[gritted]

"--What do you mean?" She's more concerned now than ever.

[misborncat]

"People with wings, or even huge flying monsters that I've never seen before here. I haven't spoken with the big ones, but I've seen others do it." He thinks for a moment more.

"And there are those that can do magic. I wouldn't like to upset them."

[gritted]

"They sound like a devilish sort. I hope I do not encounter such folk."
