Lystra is sitting at the window, alone. She's sent everyone away, not that there were many people to send away. Most of the others at the Pinnacles are dragon-knights, whose only interest in the queen and her newborn son is how well they are protected. Lystra isn't craving company or conversation, though. She's happy to sit quietly at the window, ( Read more... )

In her wanderings, Lystra might come across a prince of Orkney, sitting on a windowsill and writing (and sighing) and writing (and sighing.)

Trying to make heads or tails of the way things have been going, Gawain is attempting a diary - but it's painful.

Mostly because he's never been very literate to start.

Lystra happens to be walking by, her son in her arms, and she pauses when she sees Gawain. She wasn't expecting to run into anybody. Gawain might notice a young queen standing nearby, hesitating timidly.

When he feels observed, Gawain looks up, and the moment he sees the young woman, he stands abruptly and bows. "My lady." He is every inch the courtier, in this instant.

Lystra smiles, glances down, then looks back up. She blushes, just a little. She'd bow in return, but it's not really possible while holding her son.

"Good day," she ventures, quietly.

"And to you, my lady," he replies gallantly. "Is there aught for your service?"

He's sworn to protect women, and this one has a nursing babe. He's kind of already slated to champion her. (Even if he already has Enide to worry about, of course.)

Lystra blushes more. She likes this ~gallantry~.

"I was just passing by. I wouldn't want to trouble you."

She's not sure what he was doing, but it does look like he was busy doing something.

He was busy doing something which he wasn't motivated to do for many reasons. He shakes his head just once. "It is well, Lady," he says again. "I was only passing time." And being perilously close to more emo.

"I was just exploring this place," Lystra says, with a smile, because she's found some amazing things here. She can't think of anything in particular she needs, but she does like this man and his ~gallantry~. "I am Queen Lystra, of the Endless Sea."

Again, Gawain bows - queenliness, and all that. "Well met,m my lady. I am Sir Gawain, son of King Lot of Orkney."

And his firstborn, so technically the crown prince, except that thanks to Arthur, it was a moot point.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, your highness," Lystra replies.

"Your Majesty," he replies, courteously. "Is there -- have you no honor guard?"

What is with all these queens left unattended?

"My son and I came here alone," Lystra replies.

He looks disapproving of this in the extreme. "Forgive me for being so forward, lady, but is there no-one here to keep you safe?"

"None of my husband's knights followed me here," Lystra replies. "Is there some danger I will need to be kept safe from?"

She looks a bit worried when she asks the question.

Do you have crazy family around? He doesn't ask. "-- there are many a folk here, and none have been unkind to be thus far, lady, but all the same."

He looks worried. "Have you a place to stay, and all that is needed for the babe?"

This is making him miss his sons, actually. Might even be visible, a touch.

"I have heard this place provides well for those who stay here," Lystra replies. She's not worried about having things. Things aren't important when, if it's true that she can't leave this place, her son will be growing up without his father. What she really needs is her husband, but Gawain can't help her with that.
