A tall, pale, blond man steps through the front door, and pauses. As he looks around his movements and gestures are stiff, his facial expressions limited. He turns to look out the door behind him, then takes another look around the room. This is certainly not where he was before, and when he attempts to wirelessly connect to Mr. Stark's ( Read more... )

There's a young boy with neat chestnut brown hair and soulful eyes in the kitchen, puttering around the stove and making what appears to be a stir fry in a good-sized wok -- even though he doesn't need to eat any more than the newcomer does. He's only about twelve or thirteen, but he seems very adept at it.

Spotting Jarvis, he looks up and smiles. "Hi there, are you new here?"

Jarvis has never had any direct contact with children. He knows more about sidewinder missles than how to interact with them. But he offers his best smile (though still one that might hover along the edge of the uncanny valley), and nods. "Yes, I suppose I am."

"Nice to meet you: I'm Riku, Riku Miyagusuku," he says. He takes the wok off the burner and turns the contents out onto a serving dish. He almost offers some to the newcomer, but his keen hearing picks up the sound of processors humming. Looking up at him, he asks, "I don't wanna sound, but... are you an android of some kind?"

He wouldn't accept if it had been offered, he has no need for it. "I am, yes," he says, seeing no reason to hide it. The boy is perceptive. "I am Jarvis."

He goes ahead dishing out the stir-fry just the same. "That is so cool," he says, impressed but not going overboard with it. "So are you someone's butler or something like that? I hope I'm not asking too many questions: I've just never met an android before."

"It's all right," he assures. "Something like that. I ran the house." He hadn't had the body yet, then. He misses being useful, though.

"That sounds like a lot of work, but I bet it's easy for you since you're likely way smarter than most regular people," he says, setting the dish on the stove to keep warm, in case anyone wants it. "I don't know who's exactly in charge here since I haven't been here very long, but you could ask around. Maybe you could run the house here: we could use someone to do that."

"This house does not appear to be equipped with a suitable computer system," Jarvis points out. Or any computer system. If it did, perhaps this place might be more easily explained. As it is, the apparent complete lack of technology is disconcerting.

"No, it doesn't," he admits, perching himself on a draining board and letting his heels dangle. "I looked, since I kinda wanted to find a way to get a message to my family, to let them know I'm all right. You might want to ask around: someone might have figured out something. I've seen big books on computer programming in the library, so I would imagine there's someone who's at least tried."

"I will look into it," he says. "I would like a way to send a message out as well, if I find one I will tell you," he offers, "If you will tell me if you hear of one." He's not too interested in the programming books for himself, he thinks that he probably knows more than could be in those books. Most of it is Tony Stark's unique method of programming, but the man is a computer genius.

"Sure thing: my dad always taught me to help anyone I meet who needs help, and that 'anyone' probably includes androids," he says, hopping off the draining board. "Well, you probably wanna scan this place and store all that information, so I won't keep you, Mr. Jarvis."

And normally helping out is Jarvis's job, being on the other side is a strange feeling. If feeling is the right word. "Thank you, Miyagusuku-san. I hope that we will have more information to share, the next time we meet."

"I hope I do, too," he says, with a warm, innocent smile. "I hope you like it here -- well, I hope you find what you need to find here," he quickly adds, taking into consideration this very human-looking man doesn't quite have human emotions.

"Thank you," he says, though what he wants to find is a way back, either to the hotel where Mr. Stark presumably is, or to the house in Malibu.
