There's no hiding this from Etienne. The boy, in his father's arms, squeals and points. "Sparks!"

Armand approaches cautiously, in case that magic goes astray.

Looking around, Gellert nods and smiles when he sees the pair.

He flicks his wand around, causing extra spots of light that explode silently like tiny fireworks for the young boy's entertainment.

"I cannot recall--when did we last speak?" But he suspects it was when he brought Etienne to the Mansion for this birthday. And his world kind of fell apart after that.

Armand sets Etienne down, because he doesn't want to upset the child again. He points to some flowering weeds a few feet away and sends him that way. Then he steps very close. "We could not go home that night, nor any after. My house is gone, and my husband with it."

He nods. "All too often. It isn't usually that couples as close as Christopher and I are separated, but it does happen."
