[Open] Come to the Feast!

Her last conversation with Iggy has given Nellas an idea, finally, about a thank you for the bearskin and for people being her friends - and for getting to know others. Surprised as she is about herself, Nellas has found she enjoys company much more than solitude, although that is good sometimes when she needs to recharge ( Read more... )

Iggy has no such qualms about keeping his distance. He can smell food, good food, and now that he's feeling much better than he was before, he's rather keen to get some.

So, here's a young man, with fresh and once more healthy looking wings, wandering carefully by, sniffing at the air curiously.

"IGGY!" And that's the only warning he gets before there is a Nellas coming running to hug him tight, and with no pretense at secrecy at that. "I cooked, like I said I would!"

Iggy laughs, his wings opening up a bit to keep them both from falling to the grass, and hugs her too. "I can smell it. Did you do all this on your own? I could have helped."

"It was supposed to be a surprise!" she laughs again. "But maybe we can make food together the next time? Do you want to try any of this?"

She hopes he does. Releasing Iggy, Nellas bounces lightly on the balls of her feet, somewhat jittery-nervous and hoping that if he eats anything, he will like it.

He laughs again and nods. "Next time sounds good." Iggy tilts his head and sniffs at the air a bit. "I'm starving. Will you show me what you made? I want to try it all."

"All of it?" She gapes a little, and giggles, and blushes brightly, feeling warm not just because of the fires, it's from the inside - and not because of the food she's had, either.

"Really? It's a lot!" But that doesn't stop her from selecting the best morsels from each bit, a slice of tender meat and crispy skin here, the best-looking piece of bread there, and the tastiest bits of mushrooms over here. It involves a fair amount of poking, but eventually she hands Iggy his plate. It's not nearly everything yet

"Do you want to guess what it is or should I tell you? I don't know what you usually eat!" And apart from the meat it's maybe going to be fairly different from what he's used to, typist supposes, but him wanting to try things makes Nellas a happy elf.

Iggy grins and nods. "All of it," he assures her and he's hungry enough that he might be able to make a sizable dent. "Tell me? I've never smelled anything like this before."

He carefully picks up something whatever Nellas and her typist would like and takes a bite.

"It's a lot!" she repeats again. "I only gave you a little bit of some, and you can try more later, and then you can tell me what you'd like." She watches his hands. "That's a fiddlehead. It's the shoot of a young fern that's just coming from the ground, and I've steamed it with the fish and crayfish. Is it good?" She wibbles a little, hoping that he'll like what she has prepared, and typist permitting will readily give Iggy nformation about the rest of the morsels as well.

"It's really good," he insists. Nellas, you've made a feast of amazingthings for a boy that's used to eating out of dumpsters and the backs of trucks. You know what they say about the way to a man's heart...

He'll go through everything on his plate, asking her about it all and, being the kind of bird-boy he is, ask for more tastes of what she's made.

Oh. OH. She didn't know that, maybe - not that she'd imagine anything like dumpsters or trucks, and if perhaps she's heard that proverb, it hasn't been on her mind, not consciously, while she prepared the food. She just wanted to make him happy.

"There's a lot more," she laughs now, happy in turn that it works, and fills his plate with the next set of morsels, going about explaining again. There's the pheasant and the coney now, bread, chestnuts, lily tubers - like she said, it's a lot, and again she's having fun explaining, although she's a little round-eyed, happily so, that Iggy seems to intend to make good his promise.

Iggy doesn't really want her to know about that kind of stuff, but he is happy. Very happy and it's probably quite obvious.

He tries everything she offers him, laughing and nodding at her explainations. His higher metabolisim means that he will indeed make good on his promise to try everything she's made.

"You're a great cook," he says. "You'll have to show me how you do it."

"We can do that!" she seems very happy about the idea. "And I didn't even make grass soup. We don't make grass soup." That's a little apologetic, although she enjoyed the joke at the time. "I don't think it'd be very tasty."

And here she pauses, thinking of Celegorm and Anto and the idea she's had. "Iggy? Do you like dogs?"

"Yeah, I don't think it would be either," he says with a chuckles and a light, affectionate tap on her arm.

The question brings him up a bit. "Dogs? Um... I... well, I suppose it depends on the dog. There were dogs back where I'm from that I didn't like much at all." Honestly, he was utterly terrified of those kinds of dogs, but he hasn't been attacked here yet so...

"But some dogs are good."
