[Open] Queens DO Sparkle!

Oh. My. God. That's all Belize has been thinking all morning - Belize has found something marvelous.

Wigs. Feathers. Purses. Pumps in HIS SIZE. Sparkling and glittering things. Make up. And he's just overjoyed, because he'd been missing the drag act, lately.

If a certain clothier with exquisite taste were to wander in a certain hallway of the ( Read more... )

And Belize, by 1980's New York standards, is probably not doing bad either - and he'll laugh at the bemused look, and toss a very glittery shirt at the new spectator.

"What, you've never seen a queen in action, pretty face?"

Belize laughs, very amused. "Ah, yeah. Probably. Queen isn't actually used for royalty, where I come from - in fact, we don't have any. A queen would be someone who enjoys being fabulous. Like this."

He demonstrates.

"Being a queen's a state, drag's a lifestyle that can turn to a profession, and can be a pastime for some. It's complicated, for you, hm?"

But Belize is getting that this one is from the middle-ages (or something akin) and that the current situation is culture-shock inducing. He's not being in confrontational about it.

Belize is then going to explain, in as much length as he can, but in layman's terms, the difference between gender and orientation, and more specifically, the theory of gender performativity.

Typist hasn't done gender theory in a bit and is damn rusty (post-colonialism will erase things from your brain if you let it) - so pardon the very vague handwave. I may have to go re-read some Jamieson Green, if necessary. At least I have it on my bookshelf.

"Well, yes," he replies. "-- not where you come from?"

That's -- kind of surprising, to Belize. He would think even myths could count as some sort of people-study.
