It wouldn't be a normal day at the Mansion without its copious serving of elvish drama. And so here is a Caranthir, hiding, as is expected of him, in the stables.

He followed advice from his younger brothers, and ended up spilling a ridiculous amount of awkward beans to an older brother. And now, he feels stupid. Really, really, really stupid for ( Read more... )

There is a Ner in this typist's head who is very upset right now. Because OH ERU first Maitimo and Kurvo aren't speaking, and now Moryo and Maitimo aren't speaking, and the whole family is falling apart just when they most need to be unified-

But outside of meta, she just sees an upset son, and can't help but want to make him feel better, whatever that means. She might not have been expecting to find him in the stables, but now she's standing in the door, sighing.

He hasn't spotted his mother yet. All that he knows is that he's alone with Vela, and Vela is all he wants right now. His face is pressed in the horse's neck, and he's not exactly crying, but his chest is heaving.

Oh, my boy.

She takes a few steps closer to him, but making sure to make them audible, so he knows she's there. "Carnistir...what's wrong?" So gentle, and so worried - she cares about all her sons, and to see them hurting so is...

Painful all over again.

OH GOD NOT THE MOTHER. Because frankly, who else could he disappoint more painfully than Maedhros?

--- pulls himself together, then, bravely. "Nothing, mother, nothing. I'm just tired."

And even forces himself to face her, though something in his eyes is dead.

She's not going to miss that, and it is more than - more than alarming. She crosses the distance quickly, reaches for his hands. "Eru - Carnistir, what has happened? Your eyes-"

Something terrible and now she is just more worried, because didn't she say that she was going to protect them this time?

"My eyes are fine, mother," his tone is gruff, and he turns to fetch a brush and starts grooming Vela intently.

"Don't think you can fool me," she says, softly. "I know when everything is less than fine, Carnistir. Please tell me what happened? I want to be able to comfort you."

He shakes his head, keeps with the grooming, it grounds him. "I don't want to talk about it."

...sigh. "Carnistir, it seems that you don't want to talk to me about anything anymore. Can't you expect a little better of me? Have I ever - dismissed your troubles?"

"Mother, I -- " AUGH. "You know I have the highest respect for you, please -- don't --"

But if she prods a little more, he might give in.

"I want to be able to help you," she continues, in between some of his strangled response. "That is what I'm here for. You're my son. I love you very much."

If I tell you, you will hate me, just like Nelyo. Isn't he your son, more than Father's?

He shrugs, keeps with the grooming, not looking at his mother. "I love you too, mother." And I want you to keep loving me. "I'll be fine."

She tries to lay a hand on his shoulder, give it a bit of a squeeze. "--Carnistir...would you at least let me hold you? I've just found you again and already..."

He doesn't resist it, but he does tense under her hand, as if expecting a blow.

And then, helpfully, he shrugs.

She sighs, and tugs him into a hug without asking again, then. "I don't want to lose you again."

"Mother, I'm not going to go kill myself," he says tiredly.
