A long-awaited return
He had promised Galadriel that he would return to the mansion soon, and now he has. Elrond feels mixed emotions as he approaches the building, he will be glad to see more of Galadriel and he looks forward to seeing Maglor again (he has not yet heard of Maedhros's arrival), but he is less pleased at the prospect of seeing certain other denizens of the Mansion again. Still, perhaps enough time has passed that he will no longer have to fear for the safety of what he carries. He studies the door for only a moment before letting himself in. There is family that he needs to find.

Other relevant info: Technically, Elrond never really left. He's been living in the mansion's world but a distance away after an incident involving assassination, theft and a ring of power. His departure point from canon is early in the third age, after the battles of the Last Alliance that ended the Second age and his marriage to Celebrian but before the births of his children or the War of the Ring.
For the folks who are really busy on hiatus, I'd wanted to get this up for timeline purposes. If you want to wait to tag in until you get back/are less busy/not drowning in tags/whatever, feel free!
