[open] find it kind of funny, find it kind of sad

Fingon's relatively stable life seems to have been suddenly thrown into wild upheaval, and not the kind of upheaval he tends to sort of enjoy - the kind with bravery and heroics and possibly life threatening situations, that is - but rather the kind he just plain doesn't like, with inconvenient uncles attempting to usurp his place (it is his, ( Read more... )

Here is another cousin, possibly the most annoying of the bunch, who is just making his way through the main room to get outside. He will stop as soon as he sees Fingon, though.

"Findekano. Hello."

Don't be mistaken, there is very little cordiality in that tone.

Oh, look. His hands stop. And his eyes narrow. Speaking of inconvenient cousins.

"Makalaure." Coldly, and that tone of voice should communicate the depths of his...displeasure. "I was not aware that you had arrived."

(Not quite the worst, though it's close between you and Cleeg, Mags. Only because Cleeg is snogging a beloved sister.)

"As you can see. It took long enough."

He folds his arms and regards the cousin coolly, not intending to move anytime soon.

Not long enough, he could think. Rather just Mae were here. He probably wouldn't like that, though. Urgh. "--well? Was there something in particular you wished to speak about?"

Or can I light into you about the whole LETTING YOUR BROTHER FALL INTO A FIERY CHASM thing?

Invited or not, he'll sit down and perhaps slump a little. "In fact, yes. I -- Maitimo is here. It ought to go without saying, especially with you, but be good to him."

Please do. It's not as if I haven't been guilting about this for nearly 10,000 years. But really, you are welcome to, if you want to break this Maglorthing a little more.

Fingon stiffens like - no, we will not make that comparison.

Though it is tempting.

"---you of all people ought to know that I would never do anything to hurt him." And that emphasis is, yes, very deliberate.

That is not a comparison that ought to be made. Ever. Except in applicable situations.

Message understood, though.

"And I will do anything to redress the hurts that have been done to him. May I trust to your support in this?"

It is not a question, not really.

The typist is very very sorry and didn't quite think, and then couldn't help it.

Fingon eyes him. Extremely cautiously. "...you may trust to my support," he says, quietly, "Insofar as you seem to be helping. If you do not..."

There will be Consequences.

This typist thinks there is nothing to be sorry about and is in fact quite amused.

"If I am not helping, you may punish me as you see fit as long as we can keep it from him." He crosses his arms and evades Fingon's eyes. "It was my fault he -- committed suicide. I know I can trust you to understand that even if he himself will have none of it."

...

He's slightly surprised that he admits it, and so nonchalantly.

"Of course I understand that. I always have. How could you not stop him?"

We are so sorry, Maglor.

The nonchalance is only to hide the hurt from this particular cousin, make no mistake.

"How could I not stop him - I could not stop him because it was entirely unexpected and we were both mad with pain. That - that makes it no less my fault. I had the gall to talk of peace to him."

As if that explains everything. "He jumped. But I ought not to have let it come so far. I was responsible for him and failed him. I have had more than enough time to let that sink in, and now that you know, don't even dream of bringing it up to me again. It is Maitimo we must focus on."

"I will focus on Maitimo," Fingon says, not quite coldly. "I trust that as you have proven yourself incapable of doing any such thing, you will find other ways to occupy your" pathetic "self."

seasideminstrel March 30 2010, 09:10:12 UTC
Oh yes, coldly. "Aside from the insignificant fact that Maitimo is not a way to occupy anybody, you would do well to take his wishes into account. For reasons I cannot quite fathom, he wants both of us."

Fingon's mouth thins. "He thinks he does. I'm sure he will change his mind once he has his senses back."

(We're sure the Twins would offer to beat him off, if Mags wants.)

"Then he has been out of his mind all his life, excluding the few years before my birth?" Maglor's lips twist into a snarl. "I am certain he would thank you if he knew how highly you think of him, however much you are professing to love and support him otherwise."

Maglor would not really tell. But he is pissed all the same, more at the slandering of his brother than the verbal punches Fingon is throwing him.

Fingon does not even see it as slandering. As far as he's concerned, it's an unfortunate personality flaw that Maedhros blames himself and not Maglor for everything, and while that is understandable (everyone has flaws) it's still the sort of thing a friend is supposed to fix. Sort of like an addiction.

To brothers.

Er.

"And yet you agree that he should not blame himself for - all that happened." Can't saaaay it. "Who should he blame, then? The answer seems clear to me, and when he is well he will understand also."
