As if she'd heard him from too far, she turns her attention towards the man and angles to intercept his course. She walks with purpose, but isn't running - this isn't by any means an arrest.

If Sam wanders into the common room, he might stumble upon an unusual sight: a busty brunette, roasting marshmallows on the end of a poker, and slowly eating them.
She's eating her emotions, since she can't go home, ever again.

She's really talking about the food - so long as there's food between her and a hot guy, she's good. Don't expect her to flirt openly, though. She might become a puddle of awkward.
