[Mingler] And there were noises in the woods, and none knew their source

Sep 13, 2013 12:18

They have worked long and hard, grandfather and grandson, to create this prototype. The gun is an elegant thing, exquisitely decorated, but it is also deadly, for the ammunition it shoots is more akin to an explosive than to an actual bullet ( Read more... )

Scheherazade was on her way to the lake when she heard the explosion. She's not sure, at all, what is happening, and so she will be looking around for signs of a thunderstorm, though that hypothesis is very unlikely given the clear blue sky above.

Shivering, afraid, she'll begin on her way back to the Mansion.

Intended for Lulu, Lou and Cat but anyone can tag her too :-) I'd assume she's found somewhere inside after first tag. ;-)

Scheherazade is all but running when she gets to the porch. She isn't sure what she heard: her people had gunpowder, but she grew up in a time of peace. She isn't even thinking about that as a possibility, to be fair.

When she sees the young man on the porch, she'll ask, "Did you hear that?"

Being in the relative safety of the Mansion helps.

Scheherazade is probably the girliest of this typist's female puppets, and she'd love to give you a make-over, Lou, if you'll let her! That does suppose her finding out about your cross-dressing ways, though.

"It sounded so dreadfully loud," she replies, "is that what a gun sounds like? I'd head of powder being used for war, but..." pause, "I lived in a time of peace."

"Then you must come from a harsh place," Scheherazade replies compassionately. "Though harsh, as many other things, is a matter of perception, and comes in many guises."

She inclines her head, and says, "I am Scheherazade bint Diran - though many here have come to call me Schery."

When she gets inside the Mansion, she might find Cobb sitting up beside his PASIV device, looking a bit puzzled and surprised, as he coils up the catheter that had been taped into his arm a moment ago.

"Scheherazade, did you hear that noise a moment ago?" he asks, concerned. And the question implied is, 'Or did I just dream it?'

She comes and it's only moments before she's cuddling in his arms, if he allows it. It scared her - for sheer virtue of the loudness.

"I did," she replies. "I was out by the lake, it was so loud..."

Ah, Scheherazade...

He'll pull her close, one arm around her body, leaning his cheek against her temple and running a hand over her hair, soothingly. "Ugh, that's awful," he says. "You're here now, and you're safe.

"Wonder if someone was out there making their own batch of fireworks..." he muses.

"It sounded like nothing I ever heard," Scheherazade says tiredly. "I met someone who seemed less bemused, but..."

"But they couldn't tell you anything, either?" he asks. "We don't have to investigate it further if you'd rather not." He's curious, but it's more important to offer her some diversion from the strange noises outside: he'll find that out in due time.

"The racket found its way into my dream: thought it was a thunderstorm," he says, glancing to the PASIV device.

Scheherazade blinks, notes the passive device (which Cobb is probably carrying, as they are in a hallway?) and frowns just a little.

"He said it might be a gunshot," she replies. "I'd never heard anything like it - explosions of a great intensity, that's for sure..."

He nods, taking it in. "Makes sense: about this time of year, in my country, is about the time that hunting season usually starts," he says. "Could've been someone taking a few practice shots, but it seems unlikely if it was close enough to the house to be heard."

Scheherazade could have picked up a few things from that - what she retains, though is...

"... your folk hunt with explosives?"

That seems quite wasteful to her.

"Oh, not exactly: we use... something like a high-powered slingshot. It's a very small controlled explosion in a metal tube, that propells a small bit of lead or metal," he says. "We call it a firearm. I had one on me in my world just before I got here, but I think I lost it when I woke up here."
