"Could work, if we knocked together the necessary," the Doctor remarks, leaning over a table in the main room, on which he's a large sheet of white paper covered in sketches and schematics and notations he's been poking at recently. He's armed with a blue pencil, with which he's continuing to add to the designs
"Ain't as easy as it looks: I was growing a core for one on my desk, till some idiot blew the roof off the Hub," Jack notes, sitting nearby, Verrity on one arm as he feeds her a bottle of formula.
"Wonder that it didn't happen sooner, given the things you were muckin' about with," the Doctor replies, looking at his erst-while companion. "Whut possessed you to try growin' one anyway? Not like it's a pot plant."
"Some of the coral your lot used fell through the Rift, I thought to put it to good use and catch up with you," Jack replies.
"Wantin' to bust me in the jaw sooner?" the Doctor twits back, but a shadow ticks through his eyes: of all the fates that could fall to one of his companions, Jack's has to be one of the worst. To some, it might seem like a blessing: never having to die, aging slowly, but he can see how the weight of years is hanging on his friend, now so different from the cheery, devil-may-care young Time Agent he knew.
"Made me feel better for five minutes," Jack replies. "So what are you going to do for a power source?"
"Workin' that little detail out," the Doctor replies
"*Little* detail? Pretty big one, you ask me. You're gonna need a self-sustaining source of energy, or at least one that'll charge up from the Rift," Jack argues. "I'm not crashin' and getting stuck in the back end of beyond, even with you, just because we ran out of gas."
As contemplated in last month's plot post, Nine is at work on the plans for a TARDIS, so folk with technical know-how of a futuristic/timeless/sci-fi sort are much welcome. Or folk can step by to say hello.
And yes, it is true that Jack was trying to grow a core for a TARDIS: Word of God says that's why there's a bit of coral amongst the clutter on his desk, visible if one looks closely during key scenes.
