Well, this seriously sucks.

They were just closing up when it happened - the basement was a mess, as it usually is after a gig, beer all over the floor, and everything is sticky. Johnny was moping up some vomit when the walls started to shake, and he just had enough time to crawl under a table.

Nina wasn't so lucky, though - she was finishing up with washing up the glasses, and the shelves fell all over her before she had time to respond.

Broken glass, everywhere, and blood.

It didn't take Johnny much time to crawl in her direction.

"C''mon, girl, stay with me," he says, and he's afraid to touch her, because she's so... she looks so hurt, and her eyes are closing. "C'mon...."

With Lou's permission, Nina gets to die onscreen and not come back, as she is dropped - feel free to come and help out.

Marlene was actually heading downstairs--for whatever reason, we're not sure--when it all seems to come crashing down, quite literally.

She screams for a moment, and then sees Johnny with a young woman, lying there.

"Good God, what's happening?" she says, perhaps a bit too loudly, but then again, the quake is making things loud too.

She's hesitant to try to help him, because she thinks of him as rude, but then again...there's a woman dying there.

Marlene takes a step forward.

Well, here's a reaction you probably don't expect.

Johnny hops back, hands held up.

"I didn't hurt her! I swear! She was my friend!"

She looks surprised by his insistence at first, then she sighs.

"I didn't think that," she says, perhaps more gently than usual for Marlene. "But I think we also need to get out of here--fast."

[johnny_rockfort]

"I'm not leaving her here," Johnny barks. "Maybe she's still fine."

[thatcherly]

Marlene shakes her head.

"I don't think so," she says softly.

[johnny_rockfort]

"I'm not leaving her here!"

He's not quite all there, his eyes are full of water, he seems about to scream.

Something Freudian this way comes.

Meanwhile, the walls are caving in.

She can hear the walls caving, and her eyes widen.

"For God's sake," she says. "We have to get out!"

[johnny_rockfort]

"Well, you get out," Johnny growls, "or you help me take her out of her."

He's not letting Nina's body get buried in rubble.

[thatcherly]

"--I'll help," she says decisively, and comes down the steps carefully, avoiding any wreckage, almost dainty in her footfalls.

Johnny would make a quip about her fancy shoes, but what does it matter, Nina is dead.

And Nina was his friend.

He had with her what he had with Marie-Jeanne, and that's no small thing.

"Fine." He's gruff, to hide his ~feelings~.

"We'll have to hurry," she says, looking around at the wreckage they're surrounded by.

[johnny_rockfort]

"No shit." Johnny reaches and takes Nina's body against him - it's still warm, it's not creepy to him, just yet.

Besides, where's Ryuk when you need him?

"Get the door."

[thatcherly]

She moves to get the door open--and she does, barely. They were almost trapped in there, she thinks.

"All right," she says with a nod. "Come on."

Johnny carries Nina's body without fear, and in that same way, he crosses over the obstacle course.

His teeth are clenched, he doesn't speak.

She watches, and will follow after him, then, walking carefully. Marlene's nervous about all this, but trying not to show it.
