This summer has a unique situation: there's a blue moon at the end of the summer, as the days grow shorter and the angle the sun grows lower, leading to cooler days. Klingsor, anticipating it, has harvested the remaining melons and has already uprooted the vines.
He should have thought, though, to check the early butternut squash which he planned to harvest next. Someone needs to teach him a little bit about vampire lore...
As the light of the moon angles over the stone wall surrounding Klingsor's garden, the butternut squash vines rustle and twitch, slowly uncoiling as the ripe fruits heave themselves off. They break free and proceed to bowl across the lawn, heading for the house. All the while, they emit a teeth-grating "Brrrr! Brrrrr! Brrrr!" noise.
But these creatures, disturbing as they are, seem more fearsome even than their watermelon kindred. As they bowl toward the house, they start to turn on each other, bounding and snarling, bashing into each other and smacking at each other, raising a hullabaloo that reaches the house. Anyone who's up might hear the commotion. Or even see a few that manage to make it to the house, emitting that weird "Brrrr! Brrrr! Brrrr!" noise.
