[Open] I'll be here after midnight wearing my beleaguered frown

Apr 26, 2012 18:17

Neville wasn't a celibate hermit by choice, despite the fact he'd lived like one much of his first year at the Mansion. No, he'd been attracted to a few of the men he'd met, but he hadn't pursued it. When he'd first arrived, the sting of his last relationship was still too fresh; the betrayal by his lover had cut him deep ( Read more... )

Lystra's up late, too, but not because she can't sleep. It's her son who can't sleep, and she's taking him for a walk around the Mansion in hopes that it will help him drift off. She appears in the kitchen doorway, with a very sleepy and grumpy looking toddler on her hip.

As soon as she spots Neville, she frowns and turns her nose up. "Neville," she says, sounding very serious. "I am terribly disappointed in you."

Because you have a greenhouse full of pretty plants and you haven't shown it to her yet.

Neville looks up from his glass of warm milk, concern immediately in his eyes. "It wasn't intentional, whatever I've done," he assures her quickly with a frown. "What is it?" He doesn't like disappointing people that he likes, and she seems so serious.

"Parsifal says you have a house full of plants, and you haven't shown it to me. And I've been terribly bored."

Neville almost smiles, despite his bad mood. "I had no idea you liked plants or I would have shown you," he assures her. "How about tomorrow?" Since he doesn't think it wise to traipse out there tonight.

Lystra pouts at him. "Couldn't we go now?" She can get impatient when she's bored, and she doesn't always bother with logic.

"How about tomorrow? It's a promise," Neville offers instead. He's usually quite logical, especially about others' safety.

"But I'm bored." Still pouting.

"I can keep you company tonight, but I can't take you outside," Neville offers. Not that he's good company, but he'll try. "I'm not sure how entertaining I'll be."

"Could you at least tell me about it?"

Neville looks a little surprised, but then he smiles. At least he's distracted from his sulk now. "Why yes, of course. I started building it soon after I settled in here. I had a few seeds from home, and the kitchen cabinet gave me a few others. And the rest of the plants were what I collected here. What else would you like to know?"

"Did you build it all by yourself?" Lystra asks.

Neville nods. "It helps when you can use a bit of magic," he smiles and shrugs, as if it was no big deal. "The Mansion certainly offers plenty of idle time. This keeps me busy."

[ooc: If you'd still like for Lystra to meet Justin, he has an open post right now! If it's not a good time, I'll send him to her next open post. ^^]

Lystra's eyes go wide with excitement. "You can do magic?"

I'll send her! ...when I can get around to it.

Neville looks surprised. "I've never told you? I guess it hasn't come up. I'm a wizard."

Lystra looks so, so excited. "You have to show me! Can you cast a spell?"

Neville is amused. Normally, he doesn't perform spells like this - to either prove himself or provide entertainment, but this is Lystra and he's fond of her. Also, he knows she means no offense, she simply wants to see.

He's in pyjamas so he doesn't have his wand. It'll be something simple. He points at a dishtowel nearby. "Wingardium leviosa," he murmurs the simple first year spell and the towel lifts into the air.
