Cathy was in search of a book to read on a moonlit night with the wolves howling outside -- it's all very scary, and she's heard of the wild beasts outside, but she's safe indoors, thus her air is more like that of a horror movie watcher. But as she crosses the library, leafing through a collection of some writer named Lovecraft, the shadow of a floor lamp looms up before her.

She'll let out a startled yelp and the book of eldritch abominations goes flying.

The book lands at Scheherazade's feet, and she picks it up curiously, then blinks at the girl across from her.

"... are you alright?"

She's terrified herself - the truth is this feels like the end of days - but she can't allow herself to give in to fear. If she does, all will be lost.

She's talking to Cathy now, but anyone should feel free to use this to tap her as well :-)

"No... or rather... yes, I..." she stutters, and the shadow of a couch might loom up, lunging at her. She'll yelp and duck, but nothing more happens. "What is happening?" she says. "Are the shadows possessed? Is this a spell that someone cast?" She's frightened, but there's something more in her eyes: wary curiosity and a look that suggests some part of her is hunting for another explanation to this situation besides the ones she's sputtered.

"In truth I know not, but I've not been harmed by them," Schery replies, though she feels threatened, just as Cathy does.

Leaning a little, she seems to try to poke the shadow with a finger. It instead seems to want to swallow her hand, but fails.

"Ugh... at least it causes no harm, but the sight is enough to make the skin crawl," she says, her apprehension diminishing, the curiosity taking the fore. "There is a story about the cause, but I wonder what it could be: spirits taking the form of shadows? A spell that went awry and awakened these pools of darkness?" She's clearly trying to make sense of it all and using her fertile imagination to assist her.

"Or mischievous djinni, playing tricks on us for their entertainment," Scheherazade offers. It seems the situation is harmless, and so it is her favored interpretation of the situation, for now.

"But come, I see light at the end of the corridor. Perhaps it will be safe, there."

And we can let them walk all the way there, assuming they meet up with Galie or Shadz, and find safety?
